Hi, I have recently installed a Scorpion exhaust on my PX125, I have up jetted and drilled hole in air filter. I have just noticed after riding the scoot for a few miles I have black oily gunk all over my back wheel and exhaust. I did have a similar problem when I had a Simmonini but hardly noticeable unlike the mess I found earlier. I was wondering if it was the exhaust flange? The burnt oil is coming out the end of exhaust and around the flange and around the muffler. Any suggestions please

Its a bit dodgy it running onto your back wheel! The black gunk is un burnt 2 stroke oil. When correctly set up there should only be a small amount coming from the exhaust (Ideally like yours from the tailpipe). There are only two basic reasons that there is too much black gunk. Too much two stroke from the autolube or mixed in the tank. Or your engine is not getting hot enough. I assume yours is autolube (unlikely to be a problem with too much oil). So luckily for you yours is probably the not getting hot enough problem, which means you are also not getting full power!

Yes that's correct I have auto lube, and the scoot is running very slow at the moment. I went out last night with a GPS speedo running and didn't get above 40mph (PX125 2005). So what would the next step be to get the engine hotter assuming that is the problem?? Thanks

GPS 40mph is quite a way of the mark even if you are a big lad You clearly have some issues with the engine. Assuming it is in good general working order (oil seals, piston rings, no crankcase leaks, etc.) You need to get it running hotter but not blow it up! The easy things to fix that affect running temperature are; Main Jet (smaller runs hotter), Air screw position (further in runs hotter), Air filter (not dirty runs hotter), exhaust condition (not blocked with black gunk runs hotter). The hard things to fix are; Low compression, too much squish clearance

The scoot has never run fast in the 9 months I've owned it, I don't think it's ever hit 50mph , although I was riding down Portsmouth pomenade in quite strong head-wind last night, should had took a GPS reading going the other way lol. I have just taken exhaust off and applied some exhaust sealant which has pretty much stopped the black stuff going all over the back end ,I'm pretty sure the black stuff is coming out the engine stright into the exhaust. But now it's probably going straight through the exhaust and causing problems. I shall take a closer look tomorrow and maybe make a few tweaks here and there and see how it gets on. I'm pretty much a virgin to the scooter scene so am quite apprehensive about touching things! Thanks for the advice all is welcome.

When you had the exhaust off you should have shone a torch up into the barrel to check the exhaust port for back crud. When running cold they get even more carbon build up in the exhaust port which robs even more power. With the small ports on a 125 barrel every millimeter counts! If you are not sure what you are doing it sounds like you might be able to pop round to KRUs garage to get it sorted

Well that's a plan for sure. Better hurry up as my wonderfully equipped garage is about to be sold from under me (usual split up woman thing) so I'll be working out of a bleedin' gazebo soon!!!!!

Well I just came back from Allstyles with 3 different size jets stuck the biggest on the main (103) and took the scoot out for a mega thrash down the seafront for a plug chop. There was no oil leaking and the thing went like S**t of a shovel, flew straight through the 50mph mark for the first time and I think the plug looks good. I was running the plug very lean, almost pure white so thought I'd better upjet a little, now looks a nice choc brown. Happy Days. Saw the Jimmy scoot today , lovely thing. Would look better if it was being ridden though.

By the look of my spark plug before upjetting today the thing was running way to lean. The scoot had been upjetted before but only for a simomnini exhaust but since then I have drilled the air filter and stuck a DIRTY big scorpion on "only because I was given it". Forgot to check the plug since putting new exhaust on 2 weeks ago so was lucky the thing didn't over heat as I've been thrashing the c**p out the thing lately.

Good job on the jetting, sounds like its more like it should be. Still not sure you have fixed the general probelm though. On the flat a totally standard PX125 should occasionally be creeping up to 55mph on a sat nav speedo. Yours should be faster still. Get yourself round to KRUs while there is still time and he'll find out what's up with it.

That really is so sad. It just makes fills me with despair when I hear stories like that. 52mph on a 180 kit. Was the piston upside down?

Was the piston upside down? no mate, the kits only give better torque/exceleration through the lower gear ratios, top end no difference, unlees of course you want to go through all the upgear kits/big carb.60mm racing crank/lightened flywheel route, that gives you want you want, but eats your petrol
