hi everyone, im new to the world of scooters but after months and months of saving and dreaming i finally got my self a px 125 in midnight blue brand new!. after picking it up from the shop and riding it home and practicing around where i live ( never riden a geard scooter before ) i finally got my confidence and started going out to more and more places. after 2 weeks i noticed that the engine was really struggling on the way home from work one day and that it wouldnt reach anywhere past 35 mph. i got home and found that the engine was sizzling! i called the shop they came and collected it and 1 day later i got a call saying it was ready, problem was the bake brake seized up and the made the engine work harder causing the hot sizzling engine!, 3 days after getting it back i switch the fuel switch on to on and the engine starts leaking petrol like crazy!, now i have only had it 2 weeks and already it has gone back to the shop twice to be repaired, has anyone else experienced any problems to there's after buying a vespa brand new? cheers jake.

sounds like youv.e had a bad experience there Jake. Your px shouldnt have had any of these problems which I think your dealer should sort out. You should get it straight back to them, Tell them your not happy and to give it a full check over. I wouldnt be too happy that a new engine has laboured and over heated. I,d expect these teething problems on a LML, not a vespa.

Also the other problem i keep having with it is it doesnt like to start first time! so these are all problems i will bring up with the dealer when they come to collect it tomorrow! even with these problems it still hasnt put me off my love of vespa's!

It should start first time when it's warm, but when cold it's normal to take 2/3/4 kicks to start. Remember not to open the throttle when trying to start with the choke pulled out, it should start without. Only touch the throttle when the engine kicks into life.

Modern P ranges = piles of crap.
No excuses, Piaggio are taking the p*sh with them. LML remain a much, much better machine these days.
Sadly, people are too concerned about the badge on the legshields rather than the quality of the scooter.

Only thing is with LML the quality of wiring looms. Was working on a 4 year old one and the plastic is quite thick around the wires. Good I thought 'till I saw the lack of copper strands in the middle of it. Hmmm. Plastic cheaper than copper?

arn't the cranks a bit suspect too on LML's??, Im suprised about the quality issues on the new PX range, a couple of lads in our club have them with no issues. I was thinking of buying one next spring, anyone else had any issues with the new PX range??.

11 years since i bought my present scooter brand new,did have carb issues within a few days of riding it,due to paint flakes in the fuel pipe, but thats about it really,it was only after about 4 years of riding that bigger problems started to develop, such s worn rings and oil leaks etc,i wouldnt be happy with this situation mate, its alright the dealer saying its now fixed everytime you take it back to the shop, but what you need to consider is,what strain or wear, the engine has recieved due to the over heating,if it was me i would be after a engine rebuild with new parts fitted,,especially now they are £3000 which in my opinion is way to expensive,,,mine cost £1500 11 years back,so thats double in that short time

Have to say that chaps far more qualified than me to say so (in the trade) say "Just wait a few years and they won't last like a 'proper' Vespa does". They may be right as these dealers are trying to avoid Indian built/manufactured parts as much as they can due to previous quality issues.
I have a 2003 Royal Enfield 500cc motorcycle made in India and that has the usual issues of poor chrome and rough casting etc but cheap enough to get parts and easy to work on. When the copies of an original product (whether that is Royal Enfield or LML) start getting too high though the value for money aspect can shrink to nowt!!!

I've had the joys of riding LMLs off and on over the years though never owned one and the only issues I've ever seen are with wiring (rip the loom out, start again...).
One ex did three years on hers without it missing a beat while I was pulling my P2 to bits on a regular basis. Another had a ten year old model that ran like a dream once we'd changed the rings. It's accepted that the chassis on an LML is of thicker and higher quality steel than on late P2s (I've a feeling Scootering has touched on this?) and the paint quality on the last P ranges before they stopped making them was laughable, I know of three people who took theirs straight back for complete resprays under warranty. I've not seen any new P125s in the flesh to look carefully, but I don't hold any hope for them.

Just as cynical as your strap line says! ;D.
SBW Nik - cynical about his scooters since 1982, but still refusing to give them up as he hopes one day one of them will prove him wrong.

Interesting. Tell you what. DO NOT use Super Unleaded fuel. Haven't had this issue with Vespas as I learnt on my Lammies, but had two Li 150's that I used SU in 'em. The damn aromatics the fuel company use caused the floats to swell; yeah no kid. That meant that the floats caught on the side casing of the carb. Loads of clearance normally. Initially it meant the fuel supply stopped (had to push one home a mile) then when cleaned it all out and refitted it the empty float chamber kept filling up and as the float started rising it got caught on the side (this time before shutting the needle off) and the carb flooded. Once I figured the problem I had to grind away a fair bit of plastic to compensate!!!!

yea the dealers did mention not to put SU in, and as for standard oil i have literally just been using any 2 stroke oil.

Tesco, but you may need to go in their garage.
Just don't use their fuel.
