If it's a T5 then it's a five port. Take look at the engine casing and see how many cutaways there are around where the crank sits. The top end for these scooters is an expensive component BTW, but you've picked good scooter to build.

I'd recommend Welsh Scooter Parts, they're very good.
I assume by the coil you mean the CDI that sits on the rear of the engine, next to the flywheel? Stipulate that you want a Ducati one, they seem to be the best made. I think WSP have T5 cylinders in stock, or can get them.

Funny ain't it that for scoots the Ducati parts are seen as good (which they appear to be) yet on my Ducati '916' motorcycle they got uprated to Jap ignition systems etc as the Ducati VR's (voltage regulators) caught fire a lot!

Nice bike though, the only bike ever to scare the living sh*t out of me. I was glad to give the keys back...

Hi Nik. Yeah only sold it a month ago as :- a) I wasn't using it much as it didn't really fit me (I'm 6' 2" tall), b) I have got a few points on licence from company car and drive for my work and c) with three scooters an another motorbike (Royal Enfield 500) room was getting a premium. Lovely device though............................................... sighs wistfully. I'm gonna regret selling though in future for sure but...............

Are parts from India any good??
|
|
|
Post by sbwnik on Sept 7, 2012 22:23:21 GMT
Depends what parts! 'Variable' is a good word.

Indian made parts can vary from pretty OK to downright cr*p. It really depends on what little outfit is making what. Quite often a contract for say 5,000 same parts may involve three or more factories supplying so quality is how good it can be in that part of India but built to a cost.

Look at www.SIP-Scootershop.com. Whatever they're charging for one is a rough idea of what the going rate is for a genuine one.

Why not just go buy a Malossi 172 kit for it, you'll be bored with the 125 in a few months and end up buying a 172 in the end anyway

Well u took words outa my mouth there , was eyeing up a malossi kit Lol Would u use a standard cylinder head on these kits?

|
|
Post by bryno on Sept 10, 2012 19:14:35 GMT
Yes, standard head but it needs to be modified for the 172, most of the kit suppliers will do that for you, IIRC it's only about £25 odd.
I got my kit from PM Tuning and they supplied some main jets to play with, different plug and modded a head (which I bought off fleabay)..

Like any other engine, it's down to the work you put into it.
Cut and gas flow the crank. Open up the ports and flow them. 26mm carb. Strobe the timing and dyno it, etc etc etc...
It'll not be hugely faster than a stock T5, you're limited by your gearbox, but by christ it gets there in a hurry and you should be able to wheelie through the first three gears if you ride it right... That good enough?

I just bolted the kit on, changed the timing, bigger main jet, changed plug, PM exhaust, it did a GPS's 74 mph on the flat... Blew it up on the M1 though

Quick question ,do I have to use a Standard t5 head or can I use another froma different Vespa ??

|
|
Post by bryno on Sept 12, 2012 9:35:50 GMT
Good question, I'm near certain the T5 head is not same as the PX125.
You can get your head modded on an exchange basis from kit suppliers, I bought another head so I could keep the original if I ever wanted to go back to 125, they are easy enough to pick up 2nd hand..
