A bit of background first. I run a standard PX200 with a SIP road pipe and, until today, a 118 main jet. Air filter not drilled. This is a picture of a plug I took out of a fully warm engine after killing the ignition while flat out for about 30 seconds. I've been told that 118 is way too small for this set up, but I have had no problems (plenty of wide open throttle time) and was quite pleased with the plug above. Yesterday I gave the scoot a bit of a service and gave the air filter a good clean, I decided to increase the main jet to 120 to compensate for the improved air flow as the filter was quite sh1tty. I also put a brand new B7ES plug in. Just been out for a thrash and did a plug chop again, and took this picture. If it's not clear, the end is dry and black, the shroud around the centre electrode is white and spotless as new, the ground electrode was a slight yellowish colour. The scoot was running perfectly and felt great btw. What do you think, oh wise ones?

My PX200EFL runs this 120 main jet now I have the 'holey' airfilter fitted. Runs well like that. Did have the 118 when only the non-hole emissions airfilter was fitted as standard though. Suggest you invest in drilling those holes or if the filter is really poor (even though you've cleaned it) to buy the new holey one. You WILL feel the diference. Those plugs? The first one looks OK, the second? Well it looks like it came from an engine that was still cool. Did you run and get the engine hot for at least five miles before changing to that new plug etc?

both plugs look fine though you probably need to run it longer than 30 seconds under load to get more colour especially on the second, need colour on the electrode really
if you drill i'd go 120, not drilled 118 looks ok, but i'd be happier with a 120
I run 118 with drilled filter and standard pipe, i know lots of people suggest 120 when you have a Sito+ or similar

The top one looks perfect, the bottom one (as said) looks like it's not been run hard enough.
I run a 120 on my drilled filter 200 using the same pipe, but that's no guarantee that it'll work on yours.

I was a bit alarmed at seeing the second one being so different to the first with just a cleaner filter, new plug and 2 points up on the main jet. I'd done about 4/5 miles up to this point but will do it again after a good thrash about. You've got me thinking about drilling the heart out too...
Thanks for the input fellas.

would it matter if you knocked out the whole heart shaped bit? i have bought a couple of filters from scoot rs as they are dead cheap and have been experimenting with taking out some of the packing etc. found that if you take out the white inner bandage and take of the little rubber gromit on the top of the air filter box ,its a great improvement.

No, you can remove as much as you want or even throw the filter in the bin if you upjet enough to compensate for the increase in air, problem is the more you remove of the filer, the less it operates as... er a filter, so more crap going into the motor and in theory quicker wear on the internals...

Well that inner bandage as you put it is acting as the extra fine particle filter. That is probably more efficient than the std genuine Piaggio wire mesh one anyway so I'd say the choice there is yours. It might help somewhat in passing more air as these bandages do resterict air passage for sure. I wouldn't though NEVER take off that rubber bung to the air box. If all is as it should be with correct convolted air hose to frame etc the air intake comes into that airbox from under the seat where the air is relatively fresh/dirt free. Have you seen how much dirt/dust the fan puts over your engine casings? I always have a film of very fine dust when I take the side panel off; even if only a 50 mile jaunt. I once read that it takes less than a quarter of a teaspoonfull of that fine dust to be ingested in through a carb intake to ruin an engine due to the grinding paste effect. Your choice!!!
