never known a pinion to [slip] inside the casing,,as its slotted in with the gear cog,,you sure you got the right diagnosis?

Hi No im not 100% about the diagnosis, ive done loads of research on the net and that is the only one that pooped up,the main one was the spring. Ive never done this before to a scoot so im a bit in the dark as what to expect when i splilt the case. Regards

Check to see it's not an aftermarket toughened cheese 'chrome' kickstart before you split the cases. The splines wear and slip around on the shaft after a while.

i agree...the splines tend to twist making it still look ok at the end

First tip: You dont' need a new quadrant, or to split the casings. All you need is a new kickstart.
Like cruciforms, they're designed to be a wear component and the splines will eventually wear out. Buy a new kickstart, fasten it on, job done.

Sorry, I read it as the kickstart shaft had broken.
Ouch, that's a rarity, and will also make splitting the casings a bit more difficult. Back in the corner for me.

I started reading this thread thinking "Oh, spline worn; tap in some sewing needles to tighten up the spine fit". Didn't realise you had a quadrant manufactured in the Edam factory! Poor hardening must have been the reason to do that as it had to have been bending first to give that lower position on the kickstart before it broke off. Too hard and the shaft would have just snapped off clean. Not good! Well, best of luck with the rebuild.

We're not helping here, are we? I read it the same way too... Oh look, a worn kickstart.

I wonder if it's had a dodgy Vietnam/Indian part fitted in the past?

Firstly, are you located near any members on here? Basic location might help. Any pictures available of your issues here? Was the bearing already disintergrated before you got into that area? Just worrying about how much damage has been caused if that bearing was U/S for a length of time.

HI Is the engine casings the same on a px125 as a p200 ?

Nope. Different spigot mount and stud spacing.
Generally speaking, never mix and match engine cases, even from the same model.

Hi all, Ive got a problem with the scooter jumping into gear and not being able to select neutral, Ive put all the casings back and replaced the cruicform while it was stripped down. I couldnt select neutral so removed the gear selector i then started the old girl and she went on the 3rd kick after approx seconds she jumped into gear. PLease tell me this is to do with the cables and not the cruciform, What gear should she be in when replacing the gear box selector. Any advice woulkd be grateful Thanks

the early crusiforms had steps, and a spacer washer, did you fit crusiform the same way as the old one and replace the spacer?

Good practice on the gears there, it's very easy to forget which way round they've come out.
Didn't the early ones have a washer on the selecter rod too?

yeah the washer went back on. Ive done it now it was because the selector arm wasnt lined up properly. Just been for a quick test drive and she's all good. Thanks for your input
