I've been working my way round my fairly recently bought PX. It had a clutch dragging issue when warm that I found as soon as I got it so I removed the engine and modified the clutch slot depths to allow it to clear (as recommended by Allstyle Scooters). With the oil line having been disconnected I added two stroke oil to tank to allow the gravity oil system to sort itself out as the books suggest. Did a few runs out and ended up with two stroke puddle under scoot.
Hadn't used all that tankful of fuel yet of which more later. I hate leaks on anything like this so yesterday decided to strip it all down to run an examination. Found oil was collecting in the bottom of the cast carb box and running out of the rubber grommet to the mixture adjust.
So, pulled it all apart in that area. Checked pump idea out. Very simple and clever design. Now here's the issue. The variable amount of supplied oil is deposited into a small channel on the underside of the cast box which is sealed off on the underside by a gasket which in turn is clamped against the crankcase. The oil is then directed into a hole in the carb itself which must suck it in via venturi effect . Having blown through the carb hole I think it exits out through a small hole in the lower milled slot where the carb slide goes (well thats what I think due to blowing down a silicone tube on the outside to check it).
Here's the main thing/worry/shock.
The gasket which fits between the actual carb and the cast box has various holes stamped through it for the intake etc, BUT mine as fitted (by some idiot?) had NO hole through it for that oil to go anywhere !
Is there a non autolube gasket 'cos that might explain it. Gasket was made in UK too.
Luckily I had not used all the original 2% fuel tanks worth of added two stroke. Haven't had a chance to check it yet (as more fuel and 2% oil added to the fuel tank as the oil line's been off again) but hopefully that will sort that flamin' leak and allow proper operation of the unit.
I reckon I just got lucky eh? Gasket now has a neat punched hole in the correct position. All re-assembled and ready to go.
Is that a fair to think I'm on the right track here?
Hopefully no more leaks and a proper running engine autolube.
