Hi everyone, I'm new here and this is my first post and I'm hoping some of you may be able to throw some suggestions my way. I have a 1966 150 Super, and alls good except at top end in 4th. It loses power as though the fuel isnt getting through. If I change down it picks up again but can sometimes come to a complete stop. No problem kicking it back to life again, but as I get back up to 4th I'm faced with the same problem. Easing off the throttle helps, its just more at full throttle than anything. Now I'm not the most mechanically minded bloke in the world, so bear with me, I'll try my best with anything suggested. Hope some of you can shed some light on this and maybe get me upto speed again. Cheers

Assuming it has it been running fine until recently and you've not just; A) just had it in pieces, B) fitted a kit..
Sounds like fuel starvation, check fuel filter in the carb, clean out the jets and float bowl.
If that does not do it, check if you are getting decent fuel flow from the tank (lift tank, with hose disconnected and it should flow, not dribble!).
If it's not flowing well from the tank, remove the filler cap and see if it flows better, if no improvement, remove front of tap and clean the outlets.
You'll probably find you just have some crud in the system somewhere.

Or, conversely it coud be getting too much fuel at full throttle, which is why it runs better when you back it down a bit. Ace face is most probably right, but I had the opposite issue witha PX 125 with a DR180 kit fitted. These kits are not screamers and it was just getting a bit too much fuel at full throttle. I slightly educed the size of the main jety and its now fine. You can buy main jets in various sizes for £2 or £3 apiece and its worth looking at the size you use now and buying one 2 sizes smaller and two sizes bigger and trying thme to see if there is any difference - assuming as Ace Face says that your fuel system is not clogged up and thyat your air filter is clean and everything is running as it should be. There are numerous posts on this forum about that, or go to www.louthscooterists.co.uk and look at the 'Did you Know'' page where there are some tips about this kind of thing. Hope you get it sorted out.

Has it got an expansion pipe/race exhaust of any kind on it? They kill Super engines in top, I've been there myself. Any hill, and headwind - sorry, headbreeze - and it was third gear time. Binned the pipe and stuck a standard one back on, problem cured.

That's interesting, the Super does have a race type exhaust. I shall definately add this to my list of suggested possibilities! Thanks for that 😉

All sorted people! Had tank out and drained fuel out, cleaned in fuel tap. Cleaned jets and float chamber filter and bowl. All back together and running a treat. Cheers for all replies, very helpful. :0)

Well that didn't last long! Me thinks it's the fuel tap. Cuts out after a minute or so with petrol on, runs ok on reserve. Another one to suss out.

How long's your fuel line?

If it was cr*p getting into the fuel tap before, one clean out of the tank and fuel tap etc may not be nough to do the job or may have even disturbed more rust particles which have made their way into the fuel tap again. Good Luck!
