Hi all, I am trying to get a 78 p200e going. It overheated on me a week ago, I stopped and let it cool down and everything seemed ok. I used it the next day for a couple of miles. Next day I rode to the garage and got petrol and a few minutes later it stopped. I cleaned out the carb and tried to start it but no go.I was at the wires from the cdi unit , when i kicked it again it started up but died in seconds. When I kick it the lights come on.
Can I eliminate anything from this.?
Thanks in advance

Just checking, are you sure it was an overheating propblem, it sounds more like an electrical problem to me. Check all the connections, that the plug is clean and gapped, and that the plug cap is secure. Try a different CDI if you have one handy. Next, pop the airfilter off and see how it runs. Put the airbox top back on and don't take it too far as it's going to be running a bit lean.
If you're certain it was a seizure, then take the head off and see how the bore and piston look. Any scoring and it'll need a rebore and new piston. Wash out the casings around the crank with petrol and look for any signs of debris. Anything more than the finest of fine grit, the bottom end needs stripping and the bearings checking. It's incredibly rare for a seizure to cause that sort of damage though, it's more likely to happen from piston holing, or ring or circlip failure though, so don't worry about that too much!
See what happens and let us know please?
