Thinking of buying some tubeless rims for px125.Does anyone on here use them.Can you fit the tyres yourself.Just a bit of general info really. Cheers Eamonn.

I believe it's a pig of a job to do yourself, specialist tyre fitting equipment required. Any particular reason why you want to go tubeless?

an article in scootering 4 years ago recomended them...but the wheels were sent to two reputable dealers to have tyres fitted & both got damaged rims in the process...maybe a machine has been invented to do the job now???

Was thinking tubeless might be a safer option when you get a puncture as the tyre wont deflate so quickly and also alloys wont rust. As for specialist equipment I take your point as the rim is basically a ring. I watched a video here about doing it yourself scootrs.com/tech.cfm and it looks fairly easy but I think there would be a fair bit of damage to the rims. Thanks for the replies Cheers Eamonn

Two easy solutions. Firstly get some of this www.avsco.co.uk/images/ultraseal.jpg in your tubes to prevent rapid deflation. I personally wouldn't go anywhere without it. Then get powdercoated rims to prevent rust. Shouldn't cost more than about £70 for the lot, which when taking into consideration the cost of tubeless rims and cost of fitting/removing tyres every few thousand miles, seems like a good deal.

I had the rear blowout from hell this week, half way round a corner at about 50 and the tube blew out on me. Clean undies time for me, and a knee that hurts!
Going tubeless as soon as possible now, even Goop has it's limits with tears such as that must have been, tyres don't have the same tear potential as a tube.

Erm, I might be being very daft here but can someone explain the tubeless rims concept to me? Where is the air if not in the tube?

Hey Dan,
Just like the tubeless tyres on a car, the air pressure is held in by the seal between the tyre and the rim - no tube. Tubeless wouldn't work with the standard split rims fitted to Vespas, the air would escape through the split. So any tubeless rim is one complete wheel that doesn't split in two, hence the supposed difficulty in fitting and removing the tyre.

Hmm, this all makes for interesting reading especially as I'm in the process of putting in a mammoth parts order for my Series 2 Lammy, including 3 new wheel rims! Think I might just head down the tubeless route.
