Hello,
Don't know if anyone can offer me any advice please?
Bought a 1985 PX200 just a few months ago - since then it's had a fair number of problems, which to be fair was to be expected given its age and the low price I paid.
However, this one's got me stumped - the engine starts fine, and just about idles without stalling (just!) - however, it's extremely slow pulling away and won't make it above about 15 mph. I've rebuilt the carb several times, which looks fine and seems to make no difference (even after extensive adjustment), and I've reassembled the cylinder with new base gasket, as the old one looked pretty poor, but still no improvement. Any ideas?
Just in case it helps I've ordered a new float needle in case it was sticking, and a replacement main jet - although to my untrained eye, I could see no obvious problem. The scooter's had a new flywheel, as the original was wrecked, and I've checked the fuel line, and that seems ok. Getting very frustrated with this problem now - my only thought is that it might be one of the oil filters, as I thought I could maybe smell some fuel in the gear oil when I changed it - would the low power be symptomatic of that?
Took it to a local charlatan calling himself a Vespa dealership recently, and after two long weeks and £140, it came back worse than before (seemed to work for about 2 miles, then lost power again), his advice was that I shouldn't waste my money on such an old bike but spend it with him on a nice shiny new one instead, but I'm determined not to be beaten....
Help!!!!
Thanks in advance,
Dave.
