Hi there,
I have a piaggio zip 125cc 2002... i am having problems getting it to start when cold? When i got the bike not only would it not start when cold but it wouldn't rev beyond a fast tick over... it would just die...
I took off, cleaned and reset the ignition pick up, cleaned the carb thoroghly, cleaned the air filter and unblocked the feed to the vacuum hose from the inlet manifold...
and voila.. once started and warm she revs beautifully and seems quicker than my other one (which is exactly the same but a 2003..)
there is quite a lot of ticking noise coming from the top of the engine... i'm thinking the valve(s) may need adjusting (havnt done this before, any tips would be appreciated..)
But still at the moment, I need the easy start to initially get her started in the first place??
could anyone offer any advice or suggestions please.
cheers.

All the symptoms suggest you could be right about the valves, but I've no experience with auto scooter engines.
I do know this though: Higher valve lift on a motorbike can increase power, so the two could well be related....

Go easy with the "Easy Start" as engines can get addicted to the stuff. No, really. They just won't start without their 'fix'. Not sure why this happens but have a couple of friends that started using the stuff for their engines in the cold weather earlier in the year and now have to use it for initial starts all the time!!!!
