Stupid question.... you know you pull the clutch in to start on the leccy boot? You're not doing the same to kick it over?
You'd be surprised how often that happens!

Tighten the head bolts and carb screws. Don't use a lot of force, but just nip them up a little.
See if that cures it.

not tried that yet but did a compression test and it was between 60 and 80 psi i,m wondering if the kickstart is worn i was kicking it over and the kick went all the way down but flywheel hardly turned

I've seen it happen with the crap chrome aftermarket kickstarts. The teeth just wear down until they do exactly as you describe. The originals are not as shiny, but actually work.

scoot now sweet the problem is now cured it was the clutch cable that had stretched thus when i was kick starting no compression due to clutch still being slightly engaged so new cable on kicks over second try super de duper

Sorry fella, that's not right. If your cable had stretched then you wouldn't be engaging your clutch properly at all so I'm not having it that that was the cause. A snagged or kinked cable would give the symptoms you describe but not stretched.

I'm thinking he's done/overlooked something silly and doesn't want to admit it on here! Yup. Coz we've NEVER done anything stupid like that, have we? (says the bloke who to this day invariably has to remove the clutch cover to either put the pressure plate or push rod on after changing clutch components. Nearly 20 years of building P range engines and I still always manage to forget at least one of them. Luckily I've now got a fool proofway of making sure all the bits go in. It's called 'putting everything in a box, and if anything is left... DAMN!!!!!')
