Hi all. Just intoducing myself. I've decided to get myself my first scooter at the grand old age of 43. I've looked at a few Vespa's but I'm undecided as to whether i should get a fairly new model or go for a recondtioned classic. I've got limited technical experience so reliability will be a major consideration until I find my feet. Any advice would be apprceciated. cheers guys

Welcome aboard - if you're a mechanical biff like me, get a new one - or wait until April when the new PX's are out, although we don't know when they're on sale yet.

welcome jimmynick, lucia's ideas pretty good but even new scoots go wrong and at the very least snap cables, get what takes your fancy and make friends with someone who's handy with a spanner

Alright jimmynick, dabbled with scooters when i was in my teens but never owned one until i was 31 (im now 41). Like you, I couldnt make up my mind either but ended up buying a souped up Lambretta GP150 complete with monza 225 kit! (silly idea) Anyhow, I thought it looked good and it was cool - which indeed it is - but deep down i always preferred the Vespa's for some reason. So after about a year i sold it and purchased a Vespa PX125 (57 plate) which is what i should have done in the first place. I love it, it looks cool for starters, has a retro appearance though being a new scoot, it's a great ride, the engine is far less complicated than that of a Lambretta (trust me!) and the engine is the right size (in terms of power) for me currently. If ever i do trade it in or sell it (highly unlikely) i would get a PX200 of about the same age. So, for me its a Vespa PX everytime. Anyway, the decision is YOURS! Hope this helps a little, Greg from Brighton.
