I need to purchase a new lock for my Vespa PX125 disc. Someone said that the Oxford Mini T disc lock was the one to buy, but after going to the bother of puchasing it, I have since found out that it doesn't fit. Can anyone suggest a lock which will fit?

Sorry..since I mentioned that it was an oxford DISC lock that I purchased I thought it was obvious thst it fitted on the DISC of the scoot, but my apologies. I want a lock to immobilise my bike from being stolen. Not a steering lock... but a lock I can fit on the scoot. A disc lock would be good as opposed to a chain and padlock and having tried an Oxford Disc lock and found that it does not fit I would like something to make my scoot secure. Now Joey ...is that more clear?

No apology needed fella, I read it too fast and missed out the "disc" bit so it was me being a knob.

No probs Joey, thanks for replying. I have managed to track down a lock on ebay (refuge of the scallywag). The guy assures me it will fit my PX125. Mind you I was informed that the last one would fit....and it never! I had to end up packaging the thing up and sending it back...more bloody hassle! Cheers sirscootalot..you k'now it never occurred to me to stick an ordinary padlock on the bugger! DOH!! Like the name says 'oldfart' ...I'm gettin senile!

it depends what you're after really, if you want an insurance discount then you've gotta buy a proper disc lock, if you just want to stop someone pushing the scoot away a padlock will work great, as i've had a few attempts on my scoots, anything that slows them down tends to put them off

Ive got a grip lock that locks the throttle and brake or clutch depending which side you use it on. Its very handy to carry with you and fits into my jacket pocket or glovebox. Having said that its probably more of a visual deterrent than anything else, if i was leaving my scooter out at night i'd probably want something more solid . if your average scumbag sees any sort of lock they tend to move on and look for an easier target but at the end of the day if someone wants its bad enough they`ll take it.

You can't beat a big f*ck off chain and bumper lock going through the front forks. I used to use a disc lock as well as the chain, the problem is though a disc lock isn't going to stop 2 scrotes picking it up and putting it in a back of a van.

No mate for what i use it for its great. If you have it on the brake and throttle side its not for moving and its very light to carry about with you . At night the scooter is in the garage so no one is going to have it then so ive no need of anything heavy duty.

Mine cost £45 direct from the makers in New Zealand (www.grip-lock.com i think it was), ive had mine for quite a while so not sure what theyre going for now. This included p&p and came within about a week , quicker than some stuff ive ordered from the uk!!!

You could of course just use a step drill and make one of the holes in your disc big enough to fit the disc lock.

You could of course just use a step drill and make one of the holes in your disc big enough to fit the disc lock. I don't think it's the size of the hole that's the reason it doesn't fit Joey. I made the same mistake buying the Oxford Mini T disc lock and it's the space between the edge of the disc and the wheel rim that's the problem. No amount of waggling will make it fit. So if anybody's got a bike that isn't a PX Disc and wants to buy a disc lock, give me a shout. www.oxford-shop.co.uk/usrimage/mini%20t.jpg
