Please remember guys, we have hundreds of forum members, with all levels of knowledge and technical know-how.
What may sound to one person a totally obvious question, may not be the case to someone else. We've always prided ourselves on our friendliness here. If I find out anyone's joined the forum to cause trouble with wind-ups or trolls (which has happened on occasion) I'll take care of it.
In the meantime, let's just continue to help people.

I thought it was a wind up because i know Shovell and if its the same lad from Cambridge then he knows more about scooters than most on here ever will. Can't believe he asked such a basic question. Might be a different person then.

Sorry fella, this Shovell comes from Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire so deffo not same. Ask me anyhing ref body work spraying etc ,but, when it comes to mechanics it goes straight to someone who knows. I got basic knowledge from trial and error hence asking the question. Scoot back now and she sounds sweet and pulls better than ever just need to bed the new kit in (and the suns till out, fantastic) I've also been told that once its been run in I should look at uping the jets (again responded with a yeh, yeh, thanks, but, honestly aint got the foggiest would his cost alot and how easy to diy) thanks for any help

God damn it! the scoot has blown again I'm starting to think either of selling or throwing it down the road (apparently its sucking air in somewhere now, i've been told that this could be either through a oil seal or a a crack in the case) I'M Really getting pi***** off with this and have no confidence in the engine gggrrrrrr

The air leak is what caused the hole in your piston . It sounds like your mechanic fitted a new piston etc., without rectifying what caused the problem in the first place.

Ditto!
It sounds to me like a faulty oilseal. The one on flywheel side is relatively easy to change without taking the engine apart. The clutch side is very easy to spotcheck (but only with a working engine tho).

Thanks for the heads up the last time it was in with the mechanic he checked carb, jet settings, etc his conclusion was to run it and see what happens or pay £200 for the engine tobe stripped down and a new oil seal tobe fitted (on the possiblity of a craked engine case I thought I would take my chances after leaving the shop £80 lighter) I put the scoot in theback of my van got home couple of days later and putting approx 12 miles on the clock BANG it goes again at this rate I could already have a new motor fitted and be enjoying a pretty fantastic summer, chance would be a fine thing!
