I think a modern PX tank holds 8 litres and the fuel warning light kicks in with an intermittent flash when the needle is on a quarter tank and then goes solid when the needle is practically on empty. The thing is if I fill up when the needle is at empty there isn't room for much over 6 litres, so is my gauge telling fibs and I've still another 2 litres left or am I wrong in thinking that it should hold 8 litres?

Hi, the tank is indeed 8 litres and when the gauge is at empty and the light comes on you have 2 litres left. Conceptually the "main tank" is empty and you only have your 2 litres reserve left. I hope this helps.

Hi Got to admitt I have never ever managed to get 8ltrs in my PX and to be honest i dont think the fuel gauges are that accurate either. I basically waited until my warning light came on and then checked the mileage, then i ran it out carrying a spare fuel can obviously to give me an idea of how far i can run on reserve.

Don't older Vespas have a reserve point for the fuel tap to be switched to? So on mine it's just the same except you don't have to do it manually. That would make sense.
I have actually been meaning to do that Dave, only I seem to have misplaced my fuel can!
