What does an engine seize feel/sound like? Is there such thing as a minor engine seize.?

From what I understand, there are different types of seize, soft and hard. Both feel the same, the back wheel locks. A soft seize will, after a period of time to cool off, free itself due to metals contracting on cooling. A hard seize is where the piston basically welds itself to the barrel and you're ringing your breakdown recovery man. Both apparently require a change of underwear.
I believe there are also minor seizes where the piston grabs for a split second before freeing itself, I would take this as a warning to slow down and check a few things out when you get home.
Hopefully someone with more experience will be able to give more info.

and i may add that its a good thing to keep two fingers on the clutch when speeding pressing the clutch will disengage the engine and free the rear wheel
and why wait to get home? always keep a reserve underwear along with the rest of the tools

Even an exciting full lock up tyre smoking seize can free itself when it cools down..
..minor seizures will be hardly noticable, i.e just a slight hesitation, maybe under load, up a hill etc. which you may just put down to a misfire, bit of crap in the fuel etc..
would show as a seizure if you took a look at the piston.
Why you ask?

Thanks guys - been having some minor misfiring problems and have concentrated my efforts on electric - condensor, HT coil, Points etc but then a mate suggested that it might be minor seizes due to over heating.
Don't think back wheel has ever locked up though. I will check that its not running too lean.

Pull your plug to see what it's burning like, a clean burn should never seize
