About 3 or 4weeks ago i had an oil leak after i had a split in my oil tank. The oil tank was replaced and everything connected back up but ive had problems getting it started ever since. There seems to be no life in the engine when i kick start it but fuel seems to getting there and ive changed the spark plug. It has started once and it ran for about 30 mins no problem but when i tried it again that night there was nothing. My dad is a retired car/lorry mechanic but cant work it out and its been with a bloke who fixes motorbikes (though not vespas) and he cant get it going either. Any ideas what the problem could be as it was running perfectly until the oil leak?

is it no spark when it doesnt start? if so could be that the wiring has been disturbed, oil can perish wiring sleeves and short out a cluster of wires if theyre not insulated from each other properly.

you didnt say if its a P/PX or a new vespa
but , IF IT HAS A SPARK, and if it a P/PX etc , where the oil tank is connected to the btm of the fuel tank, then i suspect that when you had the fuel tank back in, the fuel line wasn't placed correctly. If it has any kind of bend somewhere along the line, it can be a recipe for all kinds of weird behavior... one of them what you just described..
