I've been umming and ahhing about having my front and rear hubs chromed for ages because I have chrome rims and the dull hubs look a bit naff next to them.
I've finally decided against it for 3 reasons; it would probably be overkill, it ain't cheap to do and the chrome would more than likely peel eventually anyway.
So, to get to the point. I'm gonna paint them black with a white spot in the centre bit, will go with the rest of my paint job and accessories then. So what sort of paint should I use and what coats are needed (primer etc)? Any particular type of brush more suitable for this job? Also, where can I find the code for the black used on modern PXs?
Ta.

I painted mine only today! But only because I have a GL model and the hubs should be painted (it's a bit unusual the GL coz I can't think of another model that has coloured hubs.) Just a base primer for now and another coat when I get time, then I suppose as many coats of celly as the rest of the bike. So I'm doing mine really just as part of the whole respray, with an air compressor (but if you don't have one of these an aerosol would probably be the best bet for you.) Good luck, should look good against the chrome when they're done

I've been considering the same thing, but I've been advised to get them powder coated instead of painting them as it is much more hard wearing than paint. (Is that important with hubs?). Not looked into prices yet, so if anybody knows, or had it done, I'd be grateful.

Rob, Beedspeed do a powder coating service (but I think they pass the work on and charge on top) though it isn't that cheap and it takes a while. I'm having the 2 rusty fasteners on my front rack (ooh err missus) done at the moment, rough quote of about 15 sherbs. They have had them ages though, not sure what other places are like but for me it would mean not having a scoot for a good while to get my hubs done. Plus if the paint did peel or wear off eventually I could just do a respray, not so easy with paid for powder coating.
Didn't Bryno say he wasn't very impressed with a rack he had powder coated recently in another topic?
I'll have a look at this 2K paint and see if I can get it in aerosol form.

Have a word with Paddy he knows a good powder coating place locally . He has just had his side panels done on his GP and a couple of years ago had his whole PX done for £70.

Speaking as a total fly-by-night amateur I did the hubs on my T5 myself - 3 coats of primer followed by 4 or so of matt black, all from spray cans. 2 years on and they still look fantastic, although my DIY job on the back rack is a disgrace (as is the gaffa tape upholstery on the backrest - my rat vespa customisation credentials are soaring!)
