Hi everyone, I'm a new proud vintage Vespa owner and am trying to restore a 1963 150GL. Things were going well but there's been a hold-up while I try to source a paint shop that will mix a colour to match the original MM paint code. As I'm sure many will know the colour I should be looking for is Golden Ivory and their code is 1.298.3909 (it looks remarkably like the colour of this webpage!!) The problem is that the machine I have does not appear to have any trace of this colour. It appears to have had one or two accidents and various dings in its long life but either whoever repainted it made a very thorough job of removing this colour and painted it baby blue, or it was always blue. Is it possible that this model came in more than one colour? I've even tried Max Meyer but while they could find the colour, when they put me in touch with a local supplier they didn't have any record of it. So what next........is there a place that specialises in the early model colours? Or am I better off keeping it baby blue, or settling for a different colour altogether? I would like to take it right back to what it should be if poss. Thanks

IMHO don' get hung on paint codes. Find an automotive paint suppliers and go in and have a look at their "Lechler" paint codes. Lechler do hundreds of different hues in any given colour. You'll get a 99.5% perfect match for what you are looking for .

looking at color samples is a good idea besides that, heres a nice vespa "Roll over color swatch" not the most accurate way of choosing a color, but can give a general idea , and the "feel" of the color on the vespa www.retrovespa.com/colors.html

Thanks for the replies, I like the link to the colour chart Well I've bitten the bullet and picked a close match at my local suppliers, hopefully that'll look as near as makes no difference to the correct shade. Got just one litre of paint and the light grey primer to go with it, plus the thinner to mix. Hope it turns out good
