Hi Can anyone help, when splitting and small frame engine casing you have 2 nuts behind the stator plate, once the nuts have been removed should the stud/bolt that is left that runs below the exhaust manifold push out. I can see the one the other side is actually a stud that is threaded in the casing but the other looks like a D bolt .
Cheers Dave

there are 2 threaded studs surrounding the crank/stator area 1. at the top of the carb inlet manifold (thereabouts if you get my drift) 2. and 1 directly opposite , this is the one you see below the exhaust manifold when viewing the engine as complete. these studs are opposed to each other ie 9 & 3 oclock. there are other "d" ended loose studs in this area Check out "spliting the casings section" here it will help you no end # www.smallframes.com/

Thanks
As I suspected the one under the exhaust manifold is a D bolt and its stuck solid, I have tried everything I can think of to get it out with no luck and so i cant get the cases apart. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

casings should still come apart though if you just have one loose d bolt in casing. I haven't heard of cast alloy and hard steel fusing together. Are yuo sure you have removed all the studs.
Try soaking the offending stud in GT85, WD40 or Rockeze and leaving it overnight then tap out the next day.
Obvious questions , but have removed clutch and crank drive cogs aswell as hub nut etc :
Oh and lube the locating lug by the gearbox oil filler plug

Hi
Yes done everything and double checked it all, the casing are apart about 4mm and thats as far as they will go, I will try to soak it again but i have already left it for 3 days soaking. The problem is even if i get they casing apart the D bolt under the exhaust manifold is seized solid, I have beat the S*(t out of it and it wont budge. Looks like I may have to hacksaw through the stud and D Bolt and then get the drilled out.
