Ok, I got the electrics fixed. Thanks to everyone who replied to my last post...Now a sillier problem:
The gas flow control has a C on the left and an R on the right (as you are sitting on the bike looking down at the handle). Turning it all the way left, with the C facing up is closed. Turning it all the way to the right with the R facing up is reserve. I assume that means pointing the handle straight down is "On". But it doesn't run there--no gas flow it seems. So I have been running it on Reserve the whole time....it runs fine there, but doesn't seem right to me.
Anyone know what's going on???

Depends which model it is. PX is open or closed, as is a T5. LML has a reserve and straight up is on. If the bike is Italian originally and imported the markings will be in foreign, don't know the Italian for open and closed I'm afraid. If you have a fuel gauge, no problem, fill up when it shows 1/4 full. Otherwise run it until dry and remember how many miles per tank you get, then push it to the garage and fill up again.

I reckon your tap is on upside down so first thing to do is swap it back, once you have done this then you should be able to work out whats going on.

Why not leave it like that and have a pretty good anti-theft device? When you turn it off it looks as if it's on, the scroats get 100yds and run out of fuel, thinking it's empty they torch it and run off.

Hey guys, I've got a 96 T5, with the same 'C' and 'R' markings on the tap, which fits with the italian translation translation kindly provided by dto. But this does makes me wonder whether I've got a reserve tank or my T5 simply has an italian fuel tap on it. Can anyone shed any light on this?

On my Rally it's got the 3 positions i.e. Closed to the left, up is on and to the right is Reserve.
The PX is different i.e. left is closed and so is up. Right is on.

NO my mark 1 px is the same as your rally , if I fitted the tap the other way you could not read the C or R on top of tap unless you layed on the floor
