Hi
I need to remove my petrol tank on my 1980 P200E to replace the petrol tap. Tap is faulty, only works on reserve.
Are there any tips on making this job easy? Have read a bit in the manual - looks straightforward but don't want to stuff it up!
I have got the tool also to remove the petrol tap.
Cheers Peter

Yep, it's an easy task; petrol & oil pipes off at carb end, bolts out at top of tank, push grommet around lever through the frame and you can just tilt it and lift it out..
May be something blocking the tap you can clear by just removing the front plate, so worth trying this first before you go to the trouble of taking the whole tap out of the tank..

when you are putting it back in ,push some stiff wire through the petrol tap hole and connect it to the end of the tap. this will guide the tap back through the hole which can be a bit tricky..

I once had to get assistance doing this when I dropped the top of a Maglite down the side Seemed relatively straight forward.

Another tip is to have a couple of spare bolts (of a suitable diameter) handy to stick in the end of the petrol/oil pipes when you disconnect them to stop stuff pouring out.

Thanks for all the tips. Did read somewhere about blocking the oil and fuel hoses to stop leaking - especially after I've had a new paint job!
Bryno what did you mean about the tap being blocked and removing the front plate? Do you mean the plate that has the three position holes?

if you have access to a compressor throw a tube on the petrol pipe end and twist the petrol tap in all positions but dont forget to leave the flap open or you will blow up yeah tank there is no need to take out the complete system sometimes it can cause more trouble leaks etc good luck ferdy,
no doubt someone will disagree but believe me ive done it often enough //// infact i will be doing this today to a 1965 sportique am repairing its been standing since the 70s ive got it running in 10 mins but the tank is full of crap no doubt i will be riding it tonight // hopefully

If its a 1980 p200e it shoudn't have an oil pipe to disconnect as it won't be autolube. So the job is a doddle.
