???Hi i have recently purchased a T5 Classic 1997 it starts ok and runs ok when under load but when the scooter idles at a junction or lights there seems to be no response to the throttle and the engine doesnt pick up, although it keeps running.Eventually if i turn the petrol off and leave running it will pick up and run ok, i turn petrol back on and the scooter runs until the next stop/ junction etc. At first i thought it was the plug as it was wet and black changed from B9ES TO B7ES and also B6ES still no change. The mixture screw is a brass hexagonal bolt type and was set at 1 and 1/2 turns out i have also turned this at variation out to 3 turns, i have also cleaned out the carb it is doing my head in, when the bike does open up it seems to go very well any help please?

does it happen on any given stop (no mater how short \ long it is) ?
sounds like too much fuel, maybe fuel level too high at the carb

to begin, check the carb float to see if its not punctured or bent in any way
2nd -check the needle in the carb to see if it seals , if you can, take it out, see if there's no dirt stuck between the float needle and the float needle housing

Buy a new float needle as it's not shutting off your fuel when the bowl is full. you need to make sure you get a needle with orange tip as the black ones are designed for leaded fuel and wear out faster now we use unleaded.

just a theory-
it might be the idle screw after all
you're probably running too rich idle mixture
so, when you close petrol, eventually mixture becomes lean (air is always around, but fuel supply is getting short) so the engine at some point gets a leaner mixture and is able to rev it up
as you ride normally, idle system is not working, so it doesn't matter at this point when you stop, the problem comes again

had this on my 210 recently. remove float lid and fill chamber with fuel, wait and see if the fuel still disapears down through the carb! mine did this and it got a new carb as a treat, runs like a dream now.

i have tried another carb but with my BE4 JET AND my 50.1000 idle jet still the same. Should the 50.100 mixer jet have a air hole as mine has?
