Ferdy, they were charging £3 to get into the parts fair/bar area yesterday too. I would like to think this is just a 'cover the costs' charge, which in my mind is fair enough.

robjack that may be fair enough but the one that got me was when me and me mate rode all the way the isle of wight and his t5 was playing up so went to get a new plug from parts fair that £3 plug ended up about £8 by the time he had to pay to get in is that value for money i dont think so

I can understand how that would p*sh you off mate. I don't like paying to get into parts fairs either, but I can't imagine that the use of the conference centre at Llandudno came free, (I don't know though), so as long as the charge is to cover that and not to make a profit for someone out to fleece scooterists, then I can stand the charge. I don't know much about VFM, but I hope this was the case.

I agree the parts fair was poor..i never managed to spend a penny!! I think there was quite a few people in the town the camp site was full during the day and all the pubs. The night do was busy. 2 rooms where full and there were loads smoking outside and spread out in the seating areas between the 2 rooms. I had an excellent weekend but i suppose it depends on the company your with and what you make of it. (i wont harp on about the £3.80 for a pint of cider in the do)
I think Llandudno is a good rally town...plenty of pubs close to each other, good modern venue. What does everyone else think?

I think Llandudno is a brilliant town for a rally, but i don't think this was the right date. There was probably a lot more Scooterists in the town than anyone will ever know, but they were lost in the Extravaganza, which i must admit i really enjoyed, but i don't really think the two events should have clashed. As regards to the parts fair and custom show would it not have been better to have held them on the Camp site? As a Trader i will never trade at a Rally where they want a fee off me and the public to get in the building before they can even get to me.If you want to see an excellent parts fair at a Rally go to Kelso,No fees for dealers or scooterists.I was outside the main venue on Saturday morning speaking to people who blatently refused to go in and pay £3 just to browse around. So the knock-on effect of that will be even less trade stands because they have not made any profits.A parts fair on the camp site means no outlay for the Organisers ,Traders or Customers, common sense or perhaps not?

I wasn't that impressed on the 'parts fair' but only because of the lack of spare parts. , Everything was brand new and nothing too exciting. I bought loads but only because I need spares on the IOM and if I just bought one spark plug I would cover the cost of postage in the entrance fee. Thanks to all stall holders and sorry there weren't that many buyers. (My clutch cable snapped 7 miles from home but as it's all downhill I drifted down. Good job I'd replenished my supply at LLLLLLandudno) Great weekend, by the way, how are Jedi knights and stormtroopers 'Victorian?

I spent my money in asda on saturday buying ale. If I want parts I buy them from a shop cos they don;t charge £3 to get in the front door. Had a good time in Llandudno though, loved that sun on saturday

Good point from scooterwarehouse, I think the campsite would have been a better option. I saw those Victorian stormtroopers too

At the last Llandudno I went to, I only wanted to get into the exhibition centre for the results of the custom show. I waited until about five minutes before they were due to be announced and the VFM "security" only charged me £1 instead of £3 (something which p*shed off Ernie from Liverpool a huge amount as he got charged £3).
However, as soon as I'd handed over my money, that tall VFM "security" bloke with the beard that thinks he's a comedian asked me which was my scooter, then told me I hadn't won anything. Hilarious. As it happens I'd won best vintage Vespa, but it's a reflection of how some of VFM's delegated staff think they own scooter rallies.
VFM say theirs are scooter rallies by scooterists, but I think they could take a few tips from Barry's Isle Of Man rally, which really is a rally run by a scooterist, and one who hasn't lost sight of what it's all about.

I thought Llandudno was a good rally. I also though it was better attended than Great Yarmouth despite what people are saying.. Regarding VFM I think some people are forgetting that during the late 80's and early 90's they were more or less the only people interested in organizing rallies and venues. Those were the days when a national rally would only be attended by a few hundred people. Nowadays with the return of so many people to the scene there are more people prepared to put on events as there is a greater opportunity to make money. Personally I don't have a problem paying £6 to get into a venue were you get to see a band and have a choice of rooms and styles of music to listen to. As for beer prices I don't think they were any more expensive than when you go to any major town or city. anyway that's my moan for the day.

i always enjoy vfm dos and have never had any trouble with their staff. always had a laugh with them. i agree £6 isnt bad for a night do till early hours with bands a rally is what you make it altho i did think £5 on the sunday was a little expensive as only one room and no bands

not wanting to rock the boat i dont agree with paying to go in to a parts fair at the end of the day the dealers are probs paying to put their stalls up so why should the scooterist have to pay to go and buy goods as for the vfm yeah they have it wrong .... example above
but come on lads when you reckon on a night out in a good venue with live bands and not much hassle is 6 quid that expensive
how about going to cream night club or many other rave places .... were all old enough to remember having to pay 10-15 quid at the door for a night out cos it was the in place to be
the vfm dont really do a bad job when you realise what goes on i agree it is being run more like a buisiness now
as for your comments spence on the isle of man
what a star hit the nail right on the head
well said chappy

Thanks Bully, but no one's knocking VFM here just for charging to get into a do. The entry fees for the night dos are always very reasonable considering the choice of entertainment that's usually laid on (although there have been some serious howlers, need I say more than the Rolling Clones at the Shires and Dr & The Medics at Skegness?)
My gripe is with sarcy, superior attitude smart-arses who think they own the rally scene just because someone's given them a t-shirt to wear with "security" written on the back of it.

the stalls [pay their rent to vfm ; so to charge us to get in is a real p*sh take ; vfm need to stop this charge or their parts fairs will not get any footfall ; and the stalls will not turn up
