Hi just bought a 65 vespa sprint with 74 veloce motor. It's an Italian import rust free but a bit battered round the legshields. The motor was stuck when I got it due to over enthusiam of previous owner with a steam cleaner. It freed with the help of WD40 and will re-assemble top end this weekend. In need of a few bit's will put ad in wanted section. Got a lot of new bits with it and a lot of things have been powder coated. Ian

Welcome Ian, nice to have another Sprint owner on the forum. Any advantages of having a Veloce engine rather than a standard Sprint engine (apart from it being a bit newer of course)?

Hi just had a search main difference is an extra port in the barrel, compression ratio 7,7:1 instead of 7,5:1. A veloce has round headlight so is taller than sprint and heavier by 6 kilos. Strangely differing reports on speed ranging from 87-97km/h on veloce and 94km/h for a sprint. Figures blatantly nicked from www.vespa-archiv.de/index1.htm Just click on English and then throw it on Babelfish as for some reason it doesn't translate specs on the site. Don't know how reliable the colour code section is, it only gives Italian and German colour codes. According to those theres only 2 colours a sprint was available in metallic azure blue 110 or grey/blue metallic 37. Veloce available in green vallombrosa 590 (whatever that is?) or marine blue 275. All numbers Piaggio colour codes.

According to Google, vallombrosa was a Benedictine monastry in Tuscany, and if you put the words 'paint' or 'colour' in with it you just get waffle about frescos and renaissance artists. Marvellous.

the colour Vallombrossa green is the shade of green of the Vallombrossa Mountains in Italy. not much help i know but that is where the name of the shade comes from.

"That evening, scattering thousand-lira notes like leaves in Vallombrosa, James Bond sought, at Harry's Bar, at Florian's and finally upstairs in the admirable Quadri, to establish to anyone who might be interested that he was what he had wished to appear to the girl - a prosperous writer who lived high and well." Ian Fleming, Risico, (from the For Your Eyes Only short stories)

Nice work fella. Can't remember which of the bond books or films but I'm 99% certain there was a girl named Vespa as a love interest in one. Update so far got new saddle black with white piping, new front script's. Been waiting for base gasket have refitted piston after freeing rings off in a saucepan. Anyone for piston soup? Ian

Vesper Lynd is the heroine and love interest in Casino Royale mate. She was named Vesper because she was born in the evening, not Vespa because she was the town bike.
Check it out in the new film starring Daniel "My mum lives just down the road from Spence and I went to the same school as him" Craig
