Some of them you've got to look at the whole package. Did they offer you all the breakdown cover?
Have you tried Carole Nash? I'm with them now.

Just renewed my GTS 250. I was with MCE, this time they quoted me over £200 fully comp i said i had been quoted less to which they asked how much i wanted to pay? I sensibly said that as they had quoted me £95 for third part F&T that £140 would be fair, they then came back with a so called "special offer" of £135 (but invited me back if i found somebody lower).
My Lammy is with Carole Nash that is £90 something fully comp on a classic policy and includes breakdown cover, they came in at nearly £200 for the GTS though.
I also tried Footman James who were recommended to me, again with breakdown cover but they came in in excess of £200.
I ended up going with ebike, they give breakdown cover FOC and were in at £143 fully comp, the excess is £250. I was pleased with that however have just noticed that the £250 excess is only if it gets burnt or nicked in the garage if this happens elsewhere it is £350.
I avoided using MCE again as they don't offer breakdown cover (the GTS breakdown cover it came with runs out in a month or so), also because i fell out with them last year about trying to sell other insurances to me and because they seemed to be bartering with me over the price.
Cheers

Looks like you're going to have to find the middle ground Jimmy, or else go for the cheapest and hope nothing happens to it. Your excess is just going to be high until you pass your test. Top I'm surprised Carole Nash didn't offer you a multi-bike policy. That's what I got when I added the Sprint to the PX. They insure the rider and you can just keep adding bikes to the policy. Not necessarily a good thing as far as my bank account's concerned though.
