hi all
my p125x is now in the hands of the friendly local burglars and I am about to get a P200e which is reg as a 125.
i have a prov and CBT.
assuming all the paperwork says 125 i should be fine, right? this is either a brilliantly simple way of getting up that big hill a little bit easier without sittign a proper test, or the quickest way to invalidate my insurance and go to jail.
also any tips on getting good value from the insurance people?
cheers Tony

The only thing that would worry me is the insurance. You couldn't openly admit to your insurance that it was a 200 as they'd expect you to have a full license. If you were in an accident and yours or the other parties insurance wanted to inspect the bike you could get found out if the inspector knew his onions (engines, I mean engines) and you're insurance would become invalid.
Might be wrong here, just a thought. Probably an unlikely series of events anyway!

You're right Devo, but even if you've got an aftermarket exhaust on and don't declare it as a modification to your insurer, by rights an inspection after an accident could invalidate your policy too.
Pollini racing pipe anyone?

I would have thought if you bought it in good faith as a 125 and didn't know (wink wink) it was a 200 you should be fine. The performance difference isn't that extreme so you couldn't reasonable be expected to realise it was a 200. Some bike insurance sites allow you to specify each modification - try ticking some of the boxes and see what it does to their premium calculator - sometimes it makes no difference

So, a claim for a stolen PX125 and subsequent re-insuring and registration of a PX125 all by someone with your birthdate. Must happen all the time in your area. I'd own up if I were you, not only invalidates insurance but also fraud as a possible charge. Insurance companies do surf these sites. Be careful.

Tony, even if you're 100% legit insurance companies will look for any possible way to avoid paying out on a claim. Sure, the odds on you getting caught aren't huge but let's suppose you did stack it and you get rumbled. You won't get paid out, your 3rd party liability will also be invalid, you'll get points on your licence and a conviction.
The solution? You could get a tuned 125 to help you negotiate the hills, but am I right in thinking you can only have 12bhp as a learner anyway? And even then you'll have to inform the insurance company. I'm working on getting my licence, got my theory and going on a course for my practical test in the next month or so. Then I can ride what I like ;D

The law is fairly ridiculous re learner bikes, in fact a px200 in standard form only makes about 10.5bhp, and a 125 7.5-8! Both much less than a modern learner legal 125! The restriction should be bhp/weight rather than capacity as this would allow some other classics to be ridden by learners, eg British 250's and some sidevalve 500's even!

Sorry Jaz it's up to 125cc only for learners - it is a daft rule as my classic 200 goes slower than my old PX 125! (not for long though!)

Simple! You are not licenced for a 200 ergo, you are not insured if you ride one. Ignorance of mods or an engine change by a former owner is no defence in law. I'd just hurry up and get your test passed mate, job done!
