hi can anyone please help i have a vespa et4 2001 when you apply the front or rear brakes i get a screaching noise i belive from the engine any help would be great

This is an auto, so could be belt and roller related, would need to open up the engine cases to have a look

brake pads are new when i put it on its stand and have it running then apply brakes it makes the noise

Are you sure it's from the engine? You are travelling along when the noise occurs? And only when brakes are applied? Or does it make a noise when you're decelerating off the throttle

Put copper grease on the back of the pads Wonβt do any harm,,,and hopefully cures it If not then ? I know nothing about autos

Front or back brake when it makes noise .did you replace brake pads are they in facing the right way.sounds brake related try and find which one.

if i put the scooter on its stand and start it up it runs ok if i apply the front or rear brake i get the screaching noise so i don't think its the brakes the noise comes from the engine area???

If it was a car Iβd tighten the fan belt , then change the alternator πππππππ

That's very strange, the front brake should have absolutely no bearing on the engine/transmission. I can understand the rear brake tho, I'd suspect it's transmission noise from the clutch or variator. I've not read everything in the post, I'd be cleaning it all out with an air line, check clutch springs and friction material, rollers, belt etc
