Just been reading the SLUK website, what a good read and brought back so many good and bad memories of the time. I think my most abiding memory of my first few years in Scootering from 1981 ish on, is... Being in fear for your life, EVERY time you went out on a scoot, be it from a**es in cars trying to drive you off the road, to bikers trying to kick you off as the passed, or the skinheads ( before one of their top men, got a scoot and joined our club!!!😵😱,) Throwing house bricks at us, as we passed them on our scoots, ( one of which hit my mate on the helmet and nearly had him off!, they also kicked one of our club off his mint Rally 200 and tried to kick the sh*t out of him!
The local 1% bike club at the time, ( NOT the one that is now Scotland's biggest, but still allegedly 🙊🙉😉, has tried to attack at least two scooterists I know !) Hated our club and us all being young lads, compared to them, we would have had no chance, but only the odd member got hassle from them, when out scooting on their own 😉. Funnily, years later,( before Scotland now biggest club, gave them an offer they couldn't refuse, allegedly 🙊), some of them became friends with the new club we formed after the demise of our WELL respected first club folded and they were known to come to the odd rally we had and a bike shop, some of their ex? Members set up, helped build parts for the odd scoot in our club., at least one of which was featured in Scootering magazine, it was a Lambretta fitted with a Yamaha TZR 250 engine!.
Ride safe.
