What is it that makes a certain type of music become a scooter tune? Such an eclectic mix I cant figure it out.

There's loads of genres of music historically associated with scooters for various reasons but with the modern stuff a lot of it comes of the back of 'Brit-Pop' I'd say. Some of the big players were clearly Mod influenced and liked the coolness of scooters. Lots of mid 90s NME scooter shoots followed. Bands like The Fratellis, The Kaiser Chiefs and many other (equally awful!) indie-pop bands are just following on from the Brit-Pop stuff so I guess there's a link there. Just my two-penneth

A scooter tune = one that makes you think of the joy of riding your scooter . Consequently a scooter tune is any tune that someone likes.

I,m not any wiser now , the one thing I do know is that music plays an important role in the scene and people are passionate about it. We are not satisfied with the lowest common denominator crap that we are fed via radio etcand we make the effort to search out original music and thats what matters. Scooter music = cool

As someone who has DJd at scooter club dos, I can say that what scooterists like is truly eclectic.
You can be playing punk and have people running out of the toilets hitching their trousers up to dance to a particular song, then have people say "that's enough punk, let's have some Northern". Then they're predictably saying "play The Jam, The Who etc" and they're specific about having Going Underground or My Generation, followed by the obvious Revival classics. A whole different set of people would quite happily skank to ska and two-tone all night, then in some areas they love a bit of glam so you can fill the dancefloor with Sweet, Slade and T Rex, keep it going with Kasabian and The Fratellis into Franz Ferdinand, Kaisers etc. Then you can have people dancing to an hour of Manchester stuff (I Am The Resurrection never fails and Reverend Black Grape's always a winner). All the while there'll be one nutcase who keeps asking you to play something by Doves, no matter how many times you tell him you haven't got any.
In short, there's so many different people into scooters that there'll always be that many different types of 'scooter tunes' and more.

That Chuck Jackson tune's excellent Mike, but it does look like the warm up man told the crowd they were all going to be taken out and shot immediately after the performance.

Bang on classic tune but why does Ian Levine think he can do it better ?

Poor old Chuck. It looks like he drew the short straw for a KKK night off gig! Only a real professional could keep going in front of that load of living dead!

Hmm. Great tune but you're right Mark, Ian Levine does seem strangely attached to his Bontempi organ. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Never liked Levines attitude to the northern scene , granted he has discovered some top tunes but his cynical manipulation and exploitation has won him few friends . I read his comments on the Duffy video on Youtube talk about sour grapes , 30 odd years Ive been doing this for and she comes allong and blah blah blah blah etc.

I doubt very much that Mercy would get played by Northern DJs if it hadn't had the dancers in the video, but that's what happens when a quality song and video gets released, as opposed to some backroom £14.99 K-Tel effort.

Spence, I just watched the utube vid of Duffy on Jools Holland doing "First Cut Is he Deepest." She is great, but compared to Etta James last year she has a long way to go. (You know I am an Etta James fan.) Good vids have promoted the careers of far less deserving acts (Duran Duran for instance) than Duffy, so let this one do its job. Jesus is watching! PS. Just got back from the Bauernhaus...........
