Hi got my dad a px125 as he loved riding mine round the the garden at a family bbq he always had sports bikes in hes day But hasnt been able to ride them for a long wile due to weight ( hes 72 now ) anyway hes face said it all when he got back on two wheels so i had to buy him one . My problem is im not a great mechanic but my dad is the scoot i got him was upgraded to 180cc and heat siezed wile we were out hes stripped it down and the rings and pistons are totally knacered so my question is what do i need to build it back to a standard scoot and were is best to get the parts we dont need to go fast so upgrades or kitts are not esential would just rather have a nice reliable safe standard scoot i dont have to worry about him on thanks

Sydthescoot, buy a Haynes manual for the scoot first ( give it to your Dad as a present 😉) buy a 125 or 150 cc, barrel, cylinder head and piston ( eBay is a good place to look), before you buy anything, come back on here with a link to the part/s you are thinking of buying and ask for an opinion, as to its suitability 😉. Get your Dad to check what size of carb is fitted 20/20 or 24/24 mm, the Haynes manual will show you how to check, you need to do this as jets in the carb will need to be changed to match the be barrel, piston, cylinder head and whichever exhaust you fit.
Any other questions, just ask us.
Well done for getting your Dad on two wheels again, wish My Dad was still alive to do the same. Cherish your time with him and soak up as much knowledge from him as you can, maybe think of his scoot as a joint project for you both 😉.
Jim☺

Hi and welcome. The standard Vespa set up would be a 3 port barrel and cylinder head with a 20 carb. It's nice and tractable and surprisingly torqey for a two stroke. Use something like a Sip road 2 exhaust and you'll have a scoot that's a pleasure to ride and performance that will be more than sufficient. Hope that helps. Kev.

As a matter of interest Which 180 kit is it that is fitted, cos some of the kits are more torqey increases of bottom end power rather than balls out screamers. It's possible the kit you have might just want some fettling to be entirely suitable for your dad's needs. Having said that, it might cost as much as buying a std top end.

im sure there will be lots of people with old std 125/150 barrels & heads gathering dust in their garages. If you ask nicely you might even get one just for the cost of postage! put a message in the for sale / wanted section. good luck
