Hi guys, I'm glad I found this forum as I have recently moved to Sussex from Naples where I lived, and restored many vespas! During my university years as a hobby to get some side money I have restored many Vespa some of which I still have and have traded many of them.
I have a some vintage vespas that I would like to bring over here in UK and perhaps sell/keep. Other than transportation which I can arrange quite easily and cheaply I was looking to understand :
1- Can I register an italian vespa here in UK? It should just be matter of registration as some guys on an italian forum were saying. Especially for old models 2- I have noticed from my research on gumtree and ebay that the market here seems quite thin for vintage vespas. e.g. I saw very few ads for Rally or 125 GTR, or 125 TS. IS this due to the fact that these models have never made it to the UK market or simply because nobody buys them? 3- from what I saw on some ads the market seems to like fancy coloured/modded and non restored to original vespas. IS it just my impression?
Hope I can give my contribution soon.

Hi and welcome. To answer your questions very simply:- 1: Yes, easy enough. 2: not 100% certain, but I know a couple have stepped away from the TS, as for the Rally, should be no problem. 3: you're amongst friends here, there are purists here but even some of these are slowly being converted!! As far as I am concerned, as long as they are on the road (and you don't butcher a sound original one, just because you can...) it doesn't matter what modifications are made, it's the fact they are still being used. We all have to remember, these were designed with women nipping to the shops on one, they're now either modded up to the 9s or thrashed to hell and back ๐

hi n welcome ,same as ironsloth for questions 1 an 3 ,for 1 you can also ride your scooters for 12 months on there italian number plates so long as there legal in italy. temporary importation rules ,but if thinking of selling you'll get more if there registered . as for 2 ,the gtr an ts 125's didnt sell well in this country as at the time you could ride upto 250cc on L plates ,an the rally was popular but didnt fare well in english weather .the ones that survived are desired an make good money when sold ,4-7000 depending on model an condition . most arent sold via gumtree ,to many scammers ,an only appear on ebay as a last resort,to many tyre-kickers an time wasters an high fees .there usually sold thru clubs, word of mouth an the pages on facebook . i'm in brighton ,if ya ever get over this way .H

Clearly Sussex didn't have quite the same attraction as Naples, can't see why ;-)
