Hi all
Wondering if anyone could give me any info on registering a non uk vespa in the uk.
I can get my hands on a spanish vespa that is in this country but has not been registered here. It has the spanish plates but nothing else (no other Docs). Could anyone tell me
1)can it be done (if so how) 2)how much will it cost 3)Is it worth the hassle
Many thanks Dave

It can be done mate. Best thing to do is ring DVLA up and ask them of what they would need.
If its worth it? Depends in what state the vespa is in and how much you are getting it for:)

I've just registered a 1967 Sprint 150 that came from Italy. You need to get a dating certificate from the Vintage Motor Scooter Club based on the frame and engine number. Get insurance based on that, then get it MOT'd. Next get a form V55/5 from the DVLA, fill it in and go to your nearest DVLA registration office with photo ID (passport or photocard DL) and a recent utility bill to prove your address. Give them all the paperwork and pay them £38 and they'll give it an age-related registration number. As for the coming in from Spain part, I'm not sure if you need to do anything as far as Customs are concerned. I told the DVLA mine was an Italian scooter that came into the country in the late 60s, then sat in someone's cellar for 35 years without ever being registered here. The woman said it was pointless going through the rigmarole of saying it was imported, and to just register it as a restored historic vehicle. It's a bit of a nause but I found it fairly straightforward. You can get more information from the DVLA website by clicking here: www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/vehicle.htm

i registered a recent spanish import, but fortunately had the vat number as they need to know that duty was paid. If you ain't got import papers or dealers vat no. on a receipt then forget the legitimate route and opt for the " in an old mans shed story" then you just need a dating certificate.
A number of spanish vespas are a problem to get a date certificate for as the original records can no longer be obtained by the vmsc, so check with them first.
