hey - am reluctantly selling my px125 i know its not an MOT failure but the speedo doesnt work and whilst i never used it, its bound to put some peeps off buying. is there any way of easily telling what the prob is - eg. a cable. I know i will be ripped off if i'm not a bit savvy. Pedometer doesnt work either if that makes any diff. also can anyone recommend a workshop in London, pref south of the river - cheers

Had this problem when I got my T5 - fault turned out to be due to a loose part where the cable enters the wheel hub (not entirely sure of the part name as i'm not THAT clued-up about my bikes various bits just yet...)
The first check i'd do is to take the headset off, spin the front wheel and see if the speedo cable is turning at the top end - if so then it's either the speedometer or the cable's just not reaching far enough up into the headset; if not then you've either got a snapped cable (unlikely according to everyone I spoke to about my original problem) or issues with the speedo gears/other bits at the wheel end.
Managed to sort this out in an hour once i'd picked up some new bits (and this is my first ever mechanical project, let alone my first bike) so it's a fairly easy job, if a little fiddly. Have fun!

My speedo cable had snapped on my PX125, less than a year old as well. My point being that maybe it isn't that rare, or maybe I was just unlucky!

if it's any help at all, the speedo cable "popped" out of the fittings on the front wheel on my px. the bike was less than a month old as well. it meant that both the speedo and the odometer stopped working. turned out to be a 10 minute fixable job though. a little fiddly but do-able nonetheless. look out for a hanging grey cable on the front wheel. if you need to get a new cable then they're fairly cheap and you can easily pick them up on ebay.

If it needs a new inner cable only about £2! if it needs new worm gear at the hub end IIRC about £6 for a kit..

Don't forget it could also have come disconnected at the top end, not just the bottom end. You'll be able to tell if this is the case as soon as you lift your headset top off.
If the headset top will only lift an inch or two, the cable's still connected and your problem's elsewhere. If it lifts right up, the cable may have come loose at the plastic bracket directly under your speedo dial.
This can happen if one of the little squeezy arms on the side of the bracket snaps off. And I think you'll find "little squeezy arms on the side of the bracket" is the actual mechanical term for them.

Yeah, having issues getting mine to fit back in properly - gripping the bracket with pliers and shoving it upwards whilst shoving the headset top downwards seems to be just about the only way i've found to get the thing to click back in correctly. Is there any easier method?

I don't bother fitting the bottom clamp thingy so it makes getting the headset top off and on quick and easy.. Pull out cable at bottom and push up through the forks slightly, that gives you loads of room to clip or unclip at the top. When you want to refit, clip on the top first, then pull cable back down at the fork end (which pulls the headset down with it) and push cable back into the speedo drive at the bottom

Saves skinning your knuckles and messing about with needle-nose pliers.
