Hello Folks,
I'm confused and would like some assistance if you may. I have been looking at buying a new scoot and i was in the market for a 2011 PX125, i know they are a bit pricey but i love the look and want a new scooter as opposed to a second hand one. Now the dilemma that im in is do i wait for some to come into the country and buy one. I have now been told to have a look at the LML Star. I know the history between LML and Vespa and they are very close. The point is that i can buy a brand new LML in a choice of colours which is better than that of the PX. Brand new with a 166 kit fitted from Eddy Bullett and its £100 cheaper than a new PX so i get the benifit of more power more colours to chose from and still some change in my pocket. I have heard mixed reviews on the LML some say the finish is poor and others say it exceeds that of the Vespa. I know this is a Vespa site but im sure there is a lot of expierinece on the site that can steer me in the right direction without too much prejudice. Your help is much appreciated

Mate, you asked pretty much the same thing in the introductions section and Jack The Rip gave you some good advice.
Personally I'd want a Vespa and I love my PX. But I've also got an LML 150 in a VBB frame and am quite impressed with the performance.

I have both the LML is a good scooter the only problem I had was the soldering on the indicator switch was a bit ropey . DE restricted it sito pluss and yokohama profire tyres 55 mph all day and 60 + when pushed . My PX is 30 years old and never misses a beat I dont see any reason that my LML wont do the same . The new PX is pricey in comparison but does have the provenance of the Vespa name to some thats important . Either way whatever choice you make you will have a good robust scooter , good luck

I appreciate your comment and what Mr Ripper has said but i wanted a few more opinions to make a sound call on what to buy. I do have this nagging in the back of my head to buy the Vespa but my wallet is saying buy the LML.

I have heard the indicators seem to be a bit of a problem area on them. I spoke to Eddy Bullett today and he has said that the 166 LML might not be a ideal tool for commuting and around town. Seemed a very helpful guy who wants to give you the right sccot for what you want to use it for. Ive been to a couple of Vespa dealers and they dont even know when they are getting any stock in of the new PX's and if they have any in they are trying to convicnce me i want a black one. I dont blue or white would be the colour for me.

Also with regards to the new PX and the new cat and emission crap thats thrown onto it, will i be able to fit a new exhaust say from PM tuning without any modifications or will there have to be a new range/model of exhaust for that specific model

Probably pretty easy to get round the strangulation on the new PX, if there isn't already a new exhaust available, there soon will be. I doubt existing exhausts will be any use.*
Is the scooter going to be something you use for a couple of years then move on, or are you in it for the long run? The Vespa will hold value better than the LML I would imagine if you plan on selling down the line.
Will people sneer because the LML isn't a real Vespa? Possibly some will, but not many. And who cares anyway, there's an old saying round these parts that goes "fúck em". It's your scooter and nobody else's business.
Sorry if this doesn't help you decide which to get, but I think you already know that only you know all your circumstances and only you can decide which to choose. Whichever you do choose, you'll enjoy it anyway. Best of luck.
*I've got no idea.

Hello Robjack thanks for your reply, I will keep the bike wether it be a Vespa/LML for a while im coming from motorbikes so not had a scooter for a while and when i had one it was a twist and go. I love the look of the old school scoots and want to slow down a bit and the PX fits the bill perfectly. I dont really care what people think, BUT i do appreciate the Vespa badge. Just had a little boy so money is a big factor in the equation which doesnt help. Really am stuck but its a nice place to be. A new bike either way is in the horizon and which ever one i choose plenty of scope for custimisation and the end product will look the dogs which ever one i choose. In all honesty i just really wish that the PX was readily avaliable and on par with the LML in price, even if it was a couple of hundred quid more it would be a no brainer.

Does it have to be brand new? There are plenty of 3 or 4 years old px's around with low mileage that sell for about £1600.Why not go for one of these and have a lot of spare cash in your pocket? To answer your question imo the LML is a poor copy of a Vespa. The wiring is a mess and the metal is very tin like.In life i feel you get what you pay for, that's why LML's are cheap.

I would prefer new. Just as a bit of piece of mind.

Regarding the piece of mind, I know what you mean. I was the same when it came to getting my first scoot, but in hindsight getting a low mileage (very low) PX, say a year or 2 old, wouldn't have been a bad idea. Save a packet plus it's already run-in!

Tin like ;D thats metal for ya allways tinny In all honesty I cant see any dicernable difference in the quality of the metalwork on my PX or LML . Piaggio made a huge mistake and really let the geared scooter comunity down are they really deserving of peoples cash ? I just see the re-release of the PX as a cynical ploy and bullyish against a much smaller company and thier success during the PX,s absence . For that reason alone I wouldnt buy a new vep .
