As a complete Vespa novice (but loads of years with a car)would appreciate some advice. What would the best Vespa be for short journeys up to say occasional 25 miles and the odd touring trip of say 200 miles over a few days( with a tent perhaps). Not sure the 50s would be adequate ( or are they?). Tending to think GT125( if so its going to be CBT and L plates for the time being.) Finally are all the current Vespas ( LX and GTs) going to be OK for Euro 3 emissions. Appreciate any useful replies and apologies if I'm asking the obvious. Thanks, Ian

Hi Ian, welcome to vespa.org.uk. Don't bother with a 50cc, you'll just get chewed up by all the other traffic. The GT125's ideal for both commuting and touring if you haven't passed your test yet, you can get carriers for it so you can strap a tent on (you can also get a top box, but they look hideous). The GTs and the LX have been introduced in an attempt to fill the gap left by the PX200, which didn't meet fascistic EU emission laws, hence they are both fine. Don't forget, no motorways until you pass a test.

Thanks for advice! Really appreciated. Regarding the carriers for the GT125, which are you talking about and how much( are they Vespa ones?). Top box does look ugly. Thanks again, Ian

Nice scooter but I've decided to treat myself to a new one and the GT125 does seem to fit the bill. Best of luck with the sale by the way. Spence: could you let me have some info on carriers for the GT125, sounds like a great option but I don't see it on the Vespa accessories list. Thanks, Ian.

When you say Vespa accessories list, do you mean the one on their website? If not, go to www.vespa.com, choose the UK option then click on the Accessories link on the right hand side, you can download the official catalogue there. If that's no good, any scooter dealer that stocks the GT will be able to advise you on the accessories available. I'd forgotten that there's storage space under the seat, but that's designed to fit a full face helmet I think. Being a learner you won't be carrying a pillion passenger, so you'll have at least half a seat to strap things to as well, as your man said in the previous entry.
