Hey Dave1967, how did you get on wiht that Resurrection disc brake kit? I've seen them for £180, there's not mention of having to grind our extra space in the handlebar bottom piece, is that true? Cheers.

Hi everyone.
Anyone got any thoughts on those new 150cc lml 5-port reed-valve engines that Restoration scooters are selling on ebay for £500?
I'm thinking of getting one for my T5 while I rebuild the utterly shagged original engine.
I'm after decent but not stellar performance.
Cheers.

ha ha Skrappey, it's not me, honest. With this latest thing I was wondering about the autolube but it's defo been using some oil, I just don't know how much. I know this cos I over-filled it and could see oil coming up the filling tube, that has dropped over the last few weeks. I think I just bought a duff engine, shouldn't trust folks so much I guess! ANyways, hopefully between the two I'll get close to a complete one without spending too much. We'll see....

F*#k it is terminal: crank, piston, barrel and clutch all f**ked. Dunno about gear cogs or anything else in there. Just gotta hope the cases are okay as I might be able to combine it with my first engine that had a cracked case and shagged gear cogs, it had a Malossi 172 on it which I guess I'll be forced to go back to to keep costs down. Looks like I'll have to do it all myself cos I can't afford the labour at a garage in London! over £50 an hour inc VAT!!!!

Ha ha, well. It's broke down on me proper now. IN the garage, will find out tomorrow what the problem is. In a very short conversation with the mechanic I asked 'Is it bad?', he said 'yes'. I'm so looking forward to our chat tomorrow morning...........

Hey Skrappey, What do you mean by 'it will be roughly where it should be'? If the operating arm is in a certain spot then the clutch lever will be also, does that mean the biting point as felt at the handlebar end shoudl be in a certain spot? I'm askign cos after fiddling with the clutch operatign arm my biting point is now much sooner than it was before. As a learner rider with small hands (no jokes pls) this is a pain especially changing down, which I find a struggle anyways. Anyway, I might have misunderstood you so let me know. Cheers.

Cheers Skrappey, the brakes were backed off. I went back to the old brake shoes and the hub will go back on but it's still not a push fit. I can only get it fully on using the hub nut to push it on. Is that usual?

well, as it goes on it rotates but is tight, then when fully on it won't rotate at all. Do you reckon the shoes could be too thick!

ok, so my front brake wasn't contributing to me stopping much at all and the cable was as tight as could be so I decided to check the shoes. The first problem was getting the hub off. Haynes said it might need to be tapped off but I had to give it a right old whacking. So anyway, the shoes were worn so I replaced them. Now for re-assembly, well the hub wouldn't go all the way back on aned needed whack. Once I did that though it wouldn't rotate! So I checked the shoes were the right kind - they are. I'm at a loss now and quite depressed cos in the two months i've had this T5 I've had a knacked cruciform, knackered 1st - 3rd gear cogs, a cracked engine casing, headset top fell off and replacement doesn't seat the speedo properly, replaced the exhaust, replaced the clutch.
My other half pointed out a skip down the road and said we should carry it down there. I couldn't disagree, only reach for a nice chilled Tiger beer...
So, dearets wise-heads, anyone got any advice about this hub problem? I have a horrid sense of foreboding that Beedspeed are gonna be rubbing their hands with glee at another big parts order!

Hi there - I need help again. I wasn't get many mpg so I did some basic stuff with my carb.
I checked it and went back to a standard size main jet to fit my now standard T5 engine. All the jets, float and filter are fine but now I need to get it running right. I know how to adjust the throttle stop screw but am not sure what I need to do with the mixture screw adn how adjusting the two screws work together. I've read Haynes but still don't know, lol...
So, any tips folks?

Well well, the new engine is in and running well. Gears are changing smoothly which all sounds pretty basic but after the hassle I had with my new T5 this is progress.
Anyway, onto the really important stuff!
I want to put the T5 badges on, they have pins on the back but what the hell are those fasteners called for these things. They look like washers but with a crimped inside. I must be using the wrong name cos I can't find any on ebay or other websites.
Cheers.

Well well, the fun continues.
I need 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear cogs and a new engine casing. Flywheel side had a bodge repair that had the mechanic's eyes a popping. case had cracked all the way around where the flywheel bearing goes. Been bodged with some sealant and just fell out when the bearing was pushed!
Anyway, I'm looking for a new engine now, then split the old one for parts, hoping to get a few quid for Malossi 172 kit.
Beer is easing the pain of buying an absolutely duff scoot!
Anyone got an engine? lol.

Hi all, I've been knocking around the forum for a few weeks now, having a nose around, picking up a bit of info here and there! Last week I got myself a T5 classic which of course has a problem I didn't pick up (probably a worn cruciform) so I can't ride it very far. BUT people on the forum, and in PMs, have been really helpful and more importantly supportive. Thanks guys.
So hello, hello hello. I'll be riding soon enough! Then of course I need to do some work on the body then get it resprayed, more stuff, more spend, bring it on!!

Hey guys, I've got a 96 T5, with the same 'C' and 'R' markings on the tap, which fits with the italian translation translation kindly provided by dto. But this does makes me wonder whether I've got a reserve tank or my T5 simply has an italian fuel tap on it. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Well the wind has changed and so has my thinking. The best price I could get in London is a garage that charges £40 an hour labour plus VAT. They reckon 4-5 hours to check it all over, do the work, replace oil seals, gasket, etc. About £300 in total - if it's just the cruciform. That seems a lot to me, cos of low cashflow I could put it on the dreaded credit card for a few months. I'll be in trouble with the missus mind...

Yes, you're right. It's sensible that if I'm paying the labour to open up then get everything right after it's put back in then I shoudl get other stuff done. Cos I'm skint I might try to sell the thing (being straight up about the problem) and maybe someone who has the kit and time to sort it out themselves will take it off my hands. Then I'll buy another but be more thorough on the test-ride. I'm not that fussed about all the fancy modifications, I just need ot be able to get to work and get some practice in for my bike test, boo hoo. Strike up the violins chaps...
So honestly guys, approx how much might I be able to get for this in it's current state? The bodywork is moderate (paint faded the odd spot of rust) but with a malossi kit, cosa clutch and SIP performance exhaust.
Cheers.

Cheers guys. I'm gonna take the advice I've been given and use it to haggle with a mechanic about the number of hours it should take. eg. a couple. As Elvis says the parts are cheap as chips - if it is the cruciform. After looking as SCooterhelp.com I would have a go myself if I had a bloody garage and bench to do the work in and on.

Hi there. Just got myself a T5 and while it was fine while I test-rode it - admittedly not for long mind - I've got a bloody problem with it: boo hoo!
Basically it jumps out of 2nd and 3rd gear when the revs are at moderate and above. 1st is defo okay and 4th seems to be too. I've checked the clutch cables and all that.
Haynes tells me the detent mechanism may be worn or damaged; the crucifom might be worn or the gear pinions are worn/damaged.
So guys, and I know this is a punt, from your experience, what is most likely to be the problem? And about how much is it likely to cost to get it a. looked at and b. fixed? I really hope a mechanic won't need to spend long looking it over and doign the work. My problem is that I'm not mechanically minded, and even if I was I don't have a workshop space to be taking the bloody engine apart and buying the thing has skinted me.
This might be an added complication but it has a 172 Malossi kit with a Cosa clutch.
Hope I can call on your pooled wisdom! Cheers.

Hello helpful souls. I've just bought a T5 Classic but before I ride it home I want to fit mirrors - it currently doesnt have any. It has the holes in the handlebar casing - they're currently filled with rubber grommets. Of course, I forgot to look in there when I viewed it but I bought the internal bolt fixings and a set of mirrors from Beedspeed. So, I'd like to be able to turn up and look like I know what I'm doing when I pick the thing up, if you catch my drift! Also, will I need any special tools to get inside the casing? It looks like it might be fiddly.
I wait with bated breath... MT

Annual Small Faces convention organised by the main man Hellier. In Islington, details here www.wappingwharf.com:80/ Should be good. Shame the venue aint scuzzier though! Whilst I aint a complete cover band freak I've seen a few but the Small Fakers really were excellent. Plus the first Small Faces lot I've seen.

Thanks. Yeah, location... I'm in NE London. The levers and lenses seem to be the easiest bit but they're important for the MOT I think! Thanks for the price guide, useful for evilbay! Ah, fork link cover, thanks for that. Beedspeed I've found but does anyone know/rate vespaspares.co.uk ?
