Finally managed to spend some more time on Sunday. Managed to get the handlebars off and the fuel tank out. Still more needed to come off before I can start addressing bodywork and getting it all soda blasted. Rod

It is Italian built and then used in asianstan but, yes, the bodges were there. Lots of them around cables, plus a bodged piece of metal around the down pipe to help hold the exhaust in, and odd rags stuffed in places. Glad I wore gloves :-)

Hi, Newbie question. What's the knack to remove the fuel tank. This tap is the trick bit. The book says lift the tank slightly and then tilt the back up and it will allow this tap to come through but it looks to be too big for the hole and there isn't enough length to allow it to tilt. Like all these things I know theres a knack so whats the best way to do it please? Also - what's that above it? Thanks, Rod

Finally able to start work on it today. Took the engine out, took the seats off and a few bits of trim. Turns out the rear suspension wasnt even connected and all the wiring had been bodged but it doesn't matter. I will be replacing it all anyway. The body work has rust on it but it doesn't look too bad. I will get it all soda blasted and then look. The side panels are pretty beat up so I am going to have some work to straighten all that out or do you think its too far gone? Here are some pics: Feel free to comment :-) Rod

Hi All,
I want to keep of record of what I am doing so in the absence of a build thread section, I'm putting it in here. Hope nobody minds.
Anyway, day 1 - its here in all its faded glory. Ok so the handlebars aren't pointing in the same direction as the front wheel at the moment but it's all cool.
I will upload some photos when I can sort my laptop out.

HI,
Yep it's the 61 VBB 1T if that means anything to you. I know next to nothing about scooters today but I will soon. I just wanted an early model.
I'm going to start a build thread today and I'll put pics of the scoot in there.
I can't wait to get started.
Cheers,
Rod

Hi,
I've just bought a vespa for resto and I want to keep a log of it as well as a reference place to be able to ask questions. Is there one place to create a build thread on here?
Cheers,
Rod

I'm in Kent. It would help if you knew someone local.
Thanks,

Hi,
I am going to buy a vespa - mid 60's at the latest - to do a resto on.
What money/ condition can I expect? What should I look out for?
Cheers
