Anybody having trouble renewing?
I got a letter from Bennetts telling me that I don't fulfil their criteria any more and they wouldn't be giving me a renewal quote.
Went on a comparison site and out of about 20+ companies, only 4 would consider me, the rest just spout out the 'do not fulfil our criteria' line. This apparently is to do with modifications to the bike which amount to an Ancillotti seat and a SIP road pipe. I didn't even mention the seat grab rail and non standard mirrors. I have full no claims and am a boring old fart as well.
I eventually renewed with Swinton over the phone (£97, price fans) and this was only after some "I need to speak to my supervisor about the exhaust" type shenanegins.
So who out there has a completely standard scooter then?

All of the above, but I will add that on hills it's better to knock it down a gear and rev harder than to have the engine labouring.

You aren't flipping the throttle when you kick it over are you? With choke out you shouldn't touch the throttle until after it starts.

Hi and welcome.
First of all, you don't have a PX50, there's no such thing. You most likely have a PK50 which is a late model smallframe Vespa.
Secondly, yes, 40ml to 2 litres of fuel is 2% mix.

I think it highlights what a great design the Vespa is. You only have to get it a bit wrong for it to look like a pile of sh1te.

Sounds like variator or rollers or other such witchcraft. To be honest, you'd be better off on modernvespa.com/forum/ as that's where the people with the knowledge of auto engines are.

Legally they have to be either insured or on a SORN. I think the best thing you can do is get on the phone to companies that do classic vehicle insurance and explain the situation to them. There are companies that do policies that cover small mileages, which sounds like what you need. www.bikesure.co.uk/limited-mileage.php I don't have any experience of the above, it was the first one from Google. Try others and play them off against each other.

Nik, did you have any centre stand issues with the SIP? Mine was scraping and I had to bend it out a couple of mil.

I was a bit alarmed at seeing the second one being so different to the first with just a cleaner filter, new plug and 2 points up on the main jet. I'd done about 4/5 miles up to this point but will do it again after a good thrash about. You've got me thinking about drilling the heart out too...

A bit of background first. I run a standard PX200 with a SIP road pipe and, until today, a 118 main jet. Air filter not drilled. This is a picture of a plug I took out of a fully warm engine after killing the ignition while flat out for about 30 seconds. I've been told that 118 is way too small for this set up, but I have had no problems (plenty of wide open throttle time) and was quite pleased with the plug above. Yesterday I gave the scoot a bit of a service and gave the air filter a good clean, I decided to increase the main jet to 120 to compensate for the improved air flow as the filter was quite sh1tty. I also put a brand new B7ES plug in. Just been out for a thrash and did a plug chop again, and took this picture. If it's not clear, the end is dry and black, the shroud around the centre electrode is white and spotless as new, the ground electrode was a slight yellowish colour. The scoot was running perfectly and felt great btw. What do you think, oh wise ones?

Thanks fellas. I've got a 60ml syringe for the job and it had 5 shots, not all were full though, so I've probably got between 250 and 300mls in there.

Anybody know, roughly, how much oil goes in a P2 gearbox? I've just filled mine with about 250mls, until it came out of the filler hole. I seem to remember it taking much more last time?
Could just as easily be me getting old I suppose.

Check to see it's not an aftermarket toughened cheese 'chrome' kickstart before you split the cases. The splines wear and slip around on the shaft after a while.

when it comes time to change your tyre, and you have sealent in your tube, does the sealent plug the valve when releasing the air? if it does that would'nt be to handy. No it doesn't.

I saw this video last week:
This was apparently on tubeless rims. Not sure whether the slime would stop it blowing out, but I know I feel a lot safer with the stuff in the tubes.
I have split rims/tubes and I wouldn't go anywhere without it.

It's a bit of a minefield, but you will need Compulsory Basic Training (CBT), a theory test done on a computer at a test centre, then a practical test. There are a few options, but if you just want to ride a 150cc, then the A2 restricted access licence is the one you want. You have to pass the test on a 125cc bike or a T5 or LML 125cc scooter. This then restricts you to, I think, 33bhp machines for 2 years, a 150 is well within that limit. After which you can ride anything.
It is some time since I did mine, but as far as I know this still stands, hopefully someone will correct me if it doesn't. It is all changing though, so do it soon.

The LML in the picture is the Indian version of the Vespa PX range. They continued making them when Piaggio (Vespa parent company) stopped making them in the mid 2000's.
The LML is, from what I've heard, every bit as good as the Vespa version, some say better. Although I've read here that the electrics leave a bit to be desired. They are also considerably cheaper than a Vespa.
Piaggio recently decided to start making the Vespa PX again in 125 and 150cc versions, and you will pay around £3K for a new one. But there are loads of second hand ones available for a lot less if you look around. If you see something and you're not confident about it, post it on here and people will give you an honest opinion.

I believe you're in Manchester? I know they're a bit backward up that way, but I'm pretty sure they have scooter dealerships.
