Personally I always have a 5 litre can pre mixed in the garage to top myself up before riding out. If filling at a garage I pour the oil in first and then put petrol in to give it a good mix. You can buy little mixing jugs off eBay cheap enough.

Parrafin! It doesn't catch fire so easily and can be filtered to re-use. I am not tight I am careful with money!

Luckily for the P200 on this occasion I was reminded that I had 3 x 660ml bottles of Becks in the fridge. That took the edge of my mood!
Next time it may be Carling and look out if the only beer to hand is Carling. Or Carlsberg!

Nearly all P range Vespas and variants (Cosa, PK, most LML) use a simple AC system for the indicators. Fault findingBecause of the simplicity of the system, fault finding is pretty simple. If all the indicators are out, then the chances are that the wire between regulator and relay has become broken or dislodged. Check and plug back in/replace as needed. If both indicators at one end have failed, then check the wires between the relay and the switch. You may need to do a continuity test to do this properly (See end). 90% of problems like this are on this part of the circuit. If both indicators on one side have failed. This is very rare, and I've only ever known it being down to a damaged switch, generally with the wiring being pulled tight and pulling away. If only one is out, then the problem will be somewhere between switch and earth. Having just had an indicator problem myself please check the wiring within the switch. If I had done this I would not have had to remove tank and headset cover!Simple as that!**************************************************************************************************** Thanks to KRU251 for his input ***************************************************************************************************

Had another look. It turned out that a wire had come away inside the switch box on the handlebar. Soldered, started up and then (and i'm still laughing...) the glass fell away from the light unit and smashed on the floor. I had the top of headset off as I was checking all wiring!
As one door opens.......

I'll add to this if I may.....
I took my beloved for MOT last Friday and sods law rear left indicator which was working before I left house decided not to on the test!
1981 P200 non battery.
All other three work so switch and little green box under panel are fine. Bulb works. Wire from panel stud to bulb works. Could the wire from headset to where the stud goes in have snapped and if so....how? Bloody scooters! I swear they all hate me! Is it a pig of a job to re wire a new one? Probably, knowing my luck!

If it is non battery it could be the 'nipple' on the front of panel that fits into frame has 'gone into itself' and is not connecting to complete the circuit. A simple fix (my father in law did it!!!). The front and rear lights flashing happens on mine when on low revs. Think that is why Mr Vespa added a battery to later models!
As for fuel gauge? Dunno, I tend to rely on the reserve telling me when I need to fill up!

Halogen bulb added. It's like daylight now in comparison with the older bulb. And being a frugal chap I now have a spare (the older bulb) so all in all money well invested!
Ta for the advice (as ever!)

Thanks guys. Especially the plastic vs glass lens.....things like that always seem to catch me out!
I'll try halogen bulb first as it seems the easiest that someone like me can undertake without the need for a safety net.

Gents
I have a 1981 P200. It is pretty much standard. Without too much bother how do I improve the light? I do not have a battery so it may be difficult. Would a halogen type bulb cut it or am I limited without battery?
Happy for any advice. Cheers.

Well, it has been a while...
...60p woodruff key fail led to a new crank, clutch, cables, seals and bearings.
All done, back on the road and it never felt better between my legs!! (ooooerrrrr missus!)

Right, found time. Tried adjusting but it made no difference. Tried riding round block and clutch stopped working. Used the tried and tested 'give it a knock' to change gear. Got home and, with a mate, had a deeper look. Cable a bit frayed (changed), off with back wheel, open clutch and OMG!!!! Little bits of metal that was once the woodruff key!!!! Took clutch nest out and double OMG!!!! The crank had decided to fall out with the clutch and have a fight. Little bits of crank too!!! Clutch plates were stiff and maybe that was the start of the row!? Now taking the opportunity to have a break from scootering whilst I save some money for a new clutch, crank, seals and bearings!!!! Keep smiling even if you can't keep scootering ?

Sounds more Like you need to adjust the cable a bit fella .the clutch would ride if it was on its way out and rev high rather than go anywhere If it matters...it doesn't rev higher! TVM

........however!
P200E, runs like a dream! Just started pulling with clutch in whilst at the lights/junction etc. I'm hoping it is my imagination but lets be honest....is my clutch on the way out?
Thanks all!
