PXGuru. When you say clutch, anything i should be looking for? When I had it out previously couldn't see anything that worried me although never separated the plates etc.

Thanks. There is no up/down or side movement in the flywheel, just when I rotate it (back/forth) seems to be a 'pinking' noise...not sure if that is right. I feel like I hear this pinking when running....could be paranoia
Here's what I mean:

Hi Troops. Been of the site for a while, seems I only come back when I have real issues...lol. So here is this one... Had a piston break (odd on, lower skirt side split off, must have had a fracture or something). Anyways split engine and replaced barrel and piston (it's a T5 and a Polini 152 barrel/piston - 61D). Once back together all kicked well etc, so looking good. However it sounds a little noisier then usual (IMO)... Have ran for around 100 miles now (30-35mph) and when I returned from my last run yesterday I was turning the flywheel to see if I could hear anything odd. For me there seems to be excessive movement and a noise I am not sure of. Looked at a 150 Super and PX125 I ave and they have some movement and noise, but not the same. Just don't know where to start. When I recently split engine just before barrel replaced (had a bearing failure too) I replaced the bearings and seals. The crank seemed fine, no bottom end play when out. Have stuck a couple of vids on YouTube showing movement and scoot running...as usual, any help or thoughts really appreciated. Next stop for this scoot is Petrol and Matches! Flywheel/Crank MovementRunning Noise

Thanks Ace. eventually had to swap stator even though readings were looking decent. has started now with borrowed stator but running like dog. Mentioned in another thread...but barely got 10MPH at full throttle.

Yeah checked Flywheel with spanner as suggested...feels decent, good magnetism (or guessing it is). I have taken the CDI/HT lead from a PX i have (bit of a rat but runs)...so confident in those. Spark looked good, bright. Someone has mentioned maybe the engine seals, but stuck new ones in when changing bearing...maybe not got them right, but looked decent when going in. Also seen conflicting suggestions where dodgey seal generally has the engine running fast. This is bogging down, maxed about 10MPH at full throttle...

So sourced a stator of a bloke I know. Stuck it in and fired up...hurrah...alas no. Now it runs flat, no power at full throttle....sluggish and un responsive. 'Sigh'
Thanks Sime for letting me know your out enjoying the scoot...lol

Thanks Sime.
Reading the following but still no Spark (although changed HT lead and CDI, confirmed working on another scoot):
White - Green : 499 White - Red : 111 Red - Green : 609
Also tested wires from end to stator base, not sure if worthwhile exercise or not, but readings are:
White: 0 Red : 111 Green : 497
Not sure if there is anything else worth checking or just getting new stator/recond....?

howdy. Still fighting to get my T5 back on the road. After original stator issues due to a stuffed bearing causing rubbing, damaging the stator. This is now fixed but out of 3 stator I have I cannot get a spark. So the question is can I test and confirm a stator in or out the scooter? I have seen various suggestions but totally lost. Looking for laymans instructions to test if anyone can help.
PS. I have seen bits in posts around the site, but as say, have confused myse f reading some of the threads.

Turned out the bearing had collsed and caused the issue getting the casings split. Took some 'persuading' to seperate, but all bearings and seals done now and scooter back together.
no knocking noises, sound great moving by hand, good compression....but no bleedin spark! Man just stuck again...unless I trashed stator before sorting issue.
Is there a way to test and confirm a stator is working, either in or out of the scooter?

Struggling....enjoy out scoot, stripped down but cannot get casings to split, there is movement, get a few mm's movement but cannot split completely, won't separate. Any suggestions on what could be holding it?

Thanks guys. I have posted on another thread as seems like there was some rubbing on the stator and looks like movement from the crank, seems to have some play. Engine out and going to split. The movement maybe explains the noise I've been getting too....scoot has sounded like a bag of spanners at times.

Haha....only took me buying two stoats to clock the dry solder...mare! Mind you the movement seems to have wrecked them a bit.
Was thinking of what else I could check and replace while in there...so thanks for the heads up.

Thanks Henri. I am on stator number two, there seems to have been some rubbing, so excessive movement is there already I think. Guess it's an engine split to replace bearings either side?

Guessing you have changed all the carb gaskets. One of the girls in our club had an issue like this on a run once, it was the gasket for the float chamber that was gone, took us a bit to discover, and took a couple of gasket chanes to resolve. Petrol was coming out the back of the carb.

So posted t he other day as no spark, this turned out as dodgy big of solder on the stator. So when putting everything back it started, but sounds like a bag of spanners. Further investigation has led to me being able to see a bit of play/movement in the flywheel. Probably a mm or two, which doesn't seem good. Get t he following:
1. Play in flywheel, this is movement when tight (torqued) on, so think this is reflected in the crank too. 2. Move it about a quarter turn a movement is less. 3. Move another quarter turn and no movement.
now thinking this is an engine stip at this stage, but wondering once stripped what I should be looking for? Any thoughts?

Just checked the CDI, by sticking it on another scooter, worked fine, so guess not that....surely it cannot be another stator issue. If so, something must be wrecking them???
Stuck!

Howdy all....me again with the same issue on my T5. It is now driving me mental. Scenario:Took scoot to work on Friday, back fired a few times then died and wouldn't restart. Getting zero spark but on kick I can see my lights flicker to life. I recently was on here with very similar issues and replaced stator and CDI...which got it running again. So the question is does anyone have any suggestions? Can anything bust the stator as this is the second stator on the scoot in 6 months with the scoot having very little ride time. It is kitted with a Polini 152 top end. Have stuck a multimeter to the CDI/Stator wires and between the White/Green I'm reading around 586ohms. Apparently the reading should be around 500, but is the 586 too high? Anything else I can test check easily? Done usual, swapped plug, HT lead and even tried another CDI I had lying about (although that could be a lemon tbh). any help and advice appreciated once again...

Thanks Henry, going to double check wiring at box as you say and will swap regulator of my other scoot. Which was working fine (the scoot that is, until I met with a hedgerow...lol).

Hi all....losing the will to live now and lost on what to do next.
Vespa T5 (N plate) I have recently had an issue where I lost all my electrics. I changed my stator and all started working again, starting, running etc. took for a run this evening and all was fine, then on road home, still running well, I started to lose the lights. They would flicker on and off, more off to be honest. Got home and while idling outside house they came back, again took a short run and lost them again. If I rev high, they go off...but do eventually come back.
so new stator (actually on second one as first raceme met died...think my fault for not torquing up the flywheel right first time...damaged). New CDI. So lost....any suggestions or help appreciated.
thanks all. Stovie.

Well all sorted. Incase anyone is interested it was a multitude of issues...lol. Turned out the rear shock rubber had sheared and cables to rear light had rubbed on wheel, breaking the plastic covers and exposing the the wires...causing the short. Also seemed to lose the CDI unit at some point while fixing as once I found the exposed wires I lost the overall spark. Replaced CDI, fixed shock rubber and taped up the wires....bingo everything wonderful again.
Thanks for all the responses, appreciated.

Thanks both. Part two continues this evening. Nik when you say check the connection going into the main loom, where should I be looking to test. Feed will go from Stator to Regulator/Rectifier...correct? Should I be testing at the Regulator/Rectifier (behind battery)?

Thanks Nik.
Had a look about this evening and got stranger. Main bulb was blown so thought I was on to an easy fix but alas no...lol. New bulb fitted and when switching between main beam/dip there is a slight orange tinge but nothing you could class as 'light'. Bizarre is I still gave no tail light, however I do have indicators and brake light, only when I have the light switch set to dip...but when I do this I lose the dim orange.
Didn't have a volt meter, so not been able to check volts...not that I am confident in doing this.
Couldn't see any bad earths or shorts....reseated the connectors under the horn cover and checked for corrosion, so lost unless it's the regulator or pick ups on the stator not giving enough voltage.
Must note....all was working fine last night, until I lost the lights on the way home.

The Simonini is a favourite in our club on the PX's. I personally use a Simonini on m T5 (152 kit) and find it decent enough. Have used a Sterling on my P2 without issue also. I used to love the LeoVinci, but can't seem to find them any longer.
