Yeah?… the words 'me' and 'lucky' don't normally get used in one sentence! Barrel definately fine. Piston as you can see which looks like its been mugged, how would you suggest I clean it up abit? As for the head, I can catch my nail on the dings, so…? I don't wanna bin it if I can get abit more out of it. Like I said, it's not even run in yet. When I do get a new piston, was thinking about the 63mm Grand Sport. Don't know how much difference it would make though and if its worth it?
My wife has a point when she says that I mend it more than I ride it!

Cheers guys- when I was putting that kit on one of the new circlips pinged off somewhere never to be found. So I used both old circlips(which were not the same as the new ones) newbie mistake #132 It still runs, but as you say I shouldn't really run it like that eh. What about the head, can I use an abrasive to smooth it out abit? So if I get a new piston can I use the old rings, and do I have to run a new piston in?

Popped into my local scooter shop the other day to try to get a head gasket for my Polini 177. The kit didn't come with one but I had my old head gasket on there instead. Anyway, thought I would try and get the correct one as I was in there. The bloke said that I didn't actually need one on there though as the base of the head was raised to compensate. Fair enough I thought, I'll take your word for it. Now that I have no head gasket the engine backfires slightly and the plug is oily…at least I think it's since I left it off and it's not a coincidence. So, anything to backup my local scooter blokes advise?

Cheers for all the advice.....hate to admit it but I think I forgot to knock the tab over. :0) All good now. Afraid I had to go with the bolt in the casing method, I think I shall always remember both though haha. White walls do actually come up not too bad with WD40 do they! Learning all the time!

Evenin' all - Had to have my clutch off as the woodruff key broke( luckily I lost no shrapnel in the casing this time round) Anyway, new key in and clutch back on. Started it up and ran for about 2 seconds then s*** itself! Clutch cover off again and find the clutch has came loose. Bit awkward to get the nut tight on your own. I'm sure you boys have a trick of the trade though? What about torque settings for a clutch nut,… any suggestions? Also, while I'm here, the clutch cover has 3 bolts, 2 the same size thereabouts and one shorter. What's the correct location for the shorter one? White wall tires, anybody know an effective cleaning solution?
Cheers for any wisdom :0)

I did it this way:
Took headlight out, tank and plastic cover at the bottom and took horn off. Pushed outer cable through horn opening to where you can see it come out beneath the tank. Push the cable up from there so that the wire comes out at the other end to the horn. Now you have 12' or so to push up through to the headset. Might take a few try's but grab the cable when you see it and pull. The outer cable will come with it. Take the inner cable out and feed it through the right way. Worked for me anyway :0)

Think I'm going to need that luck! Can't believe I bloody did that 😳 But as you said, these machines were put together by a load of blokes on a production line..... They're probably still saying 'mamamia, youa remember what an a**e those cables were to feeda through'?!

Thought I would replace gear cable outers as well as inners. Stupidly pulled both complete cables right out.....(t**t) Any suggestions on threading new ones through would be a real help. I tried earlier but ended up spitting the dummy. Very frustrating. 150 Super by the way.

Yeah, can't believe he wasn't carrying one of those, must have used the last one earlier in his shift eh. Didn't think for one minute I'd be the only one who's had a ride in a tow truck....still, it sucks when it happens. From now on I shall be carrying spare cables myself and a tool roll with an arsenal of tools. I'm not sure why it snapped tbh. But I will post a pic of where the cables go into the gear selector box. Not too sure about that. I think I can just about muster up some forgiveness and look at it this evening....

ALWAYS worth checking connections and continuity with anything electrical. Cheap multi meter with a 'buzzer' has saved me many hours of grief. Just used one today in fact to check an issue with my Theremin. Sorted & repaired & couldn't have done it without a multimeter. Theremin? Look it up; lol. Here's to you getting lots for trouble free riding in 2013 then. ;D I'll drink to that!........well it is 44°c here!

Got the new cdi unit just before Christmas.... Lovely, I thought, soon be up and running again. Nothing happened. Right, that's it I thought. So I ordered new coil and ht lead and a new cap. New stator too. They arrive yesterday. Great. Straight into it. New coil,ht etc on. No joy. So I put the new stator on. Had to change the connectors ( heaven forbid it be too straightforward ) So that done... Now we're getting somewhere me thinks.......hang on.....what's this? The wire going from the cdi - coil has snapped. Didn't see it as it was a break halfway up. Got a couple of working spare parts now I suppose! Bloody scooter!
