I can't believe it's a year already since the last Isle of Wight rally. Hope to see a few of the forum members there this year. Why not put a post on this thread so I know how many are going? Don't forget, keep an eye out for the vespa.org.uk flyscreen.

Well, once again an overwhelming response. Did anyone actually go to the Isle of Wight? Were you all avoiding me? What did you do, where did you go, got any feedback on anything about the rally in general?

I'll take that as a no then. Sometimes I wonder why I bother.

I've got my accommodation booked so I'm all set. Let's hope the weather stays as good as it has been this weekend. More global warming I say.
This was my 400th post.

Robbie mate when do they ever?
I'll be trying to get tickets for anything except the Ice Rink, so I'm sure we'll meet up at some stage. I just hope we don't use up all our allocation of good weather by then.

id love to go this year but ive been done in the rear with paying for college and what not. add to that me not being paid until the week after the event and you have one grumpy b*st**do! although i will say some of the crazy cats ive met along the way are more than willing to help me out with a tent/floor space etc. which takes some of the burden off me. ah well..next year i hope. unless i can sell my body and make some de niros by next friday!
ps men need not apply ;D

wish I could go. It's only 3,000 miles or so from me. I think Ian from Modern Vespa is planning on attending. I'll be interested in hearing reports and seeing pics.

I've been doing this website for over two years now, and in all that time only about two people I've met have mentioned it even though I know lots of you use it and enjoy it. We don't tend to meet up in the way that other cyberclubs like SBW or Scooter Forums do, so don't worry about not seeing anyone. For me the rideout this year was the most boring ever, (and probably had something to do with my throttle cable snapping on the way home yesterday), I only enjoy the first 500 yards so I'll probably peel off and do something else next year. Yours for a barbecue sounds better than an eight mile queue for the solitary ice cream van at the rugby club anyway. Anyone got any other thoughts on the rally in general? The best thing for me was meeting friends I haven't seen in literally years, and even family I haven't seen in a while. I saw some great bands, made a few new friends, had a bit of a dance and had some really good laughs. We were even pretty lucky with the weather again this year. The photos I took are available now at www.vespa.org.uk/photos.html

ok guys. shoot me a text message from IW I'd love to feel part of the party. 0111 828 216 8308 Thanks!!! Seth mate, sorry I didn't text you from the Island, but like a spanner I forgot my phone charger so had to leave it switched off most of the weekend, just turning it on to pick up messages. I was scared that if I sent a text to North Carolina it would suck all the juice out of my phone in one go! Maybe I should have remembered to also switch off the divert facility because I had fourteen missed calls on my work phone when I got back to the office this morning! Maybe you should come over next year, get the IOW experience first hand.

Our 1st IOW and i gotta say we did not enjoy it! (me, missus, mates and his missus)I'm not slagging the rally off, i think we stayed too far from Ryde (£40 taxi ride )took too long to get to S hampton & they c**ked up our ferry booking , there were too many venues all packed, so we never found a do that played what we wanted, we got to the do's too late. This was down to talking to people in the pubs for hours, which of course is good. Our main down fall was we were not geared up for the size after doing so many smaller rallies or holiday camp rallies. But we know for next year and although this is really sad roll on Rhyl!!! its only 5 mins from home and we had a brill time last year

Oh no! Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy it Llew. I didn't know it was your first one, you should have said and we could have given you some hints and tips.
On my P2 it takes me 6 hours to get to the ferry in Southampton, but that's on my own and with minimal stops. Once you're on the island you soon realise it's a rally not quite like any other. Personally I think a more accurate description would be a scooter festival rather than a rally, because it's a bit like the Edinburgh Festival when you think about it.
Taxis were a nightmare this year, there didn't seem to be enough and those that were there didn't seem that bothered about making a ton of money in fares. I was lucky in that I stayed a 10 minute walk from a train station so I got into Ryde for £1.50 every night, then managed to discover the nightclubber bus at 3am so got home again for £4. But if you weren't on any of those routes you were rather stuffed.
As far as entertainment goes, you've got to look at the schedules well in advance and decide what you want to do, then get advance tickets if you can. I got all my Hipshaker tickets beforehand, but tried to get a ticket for The Gift on the day and it was sold out, so I went somewhere else to see another band. That place was rammed but it was one out, one in, so I managed to squeeze in there. Sunday night was quieter, but if you can't get in to see bands etc, there's always plenty of people you know who couldn't either, so you can always get p*shed and shoot the sh*t with someone somewhere.
There'll be a crowd of us from the 9 at Rhyl, so we stand a much better chance of meeting up for a pint this time eh!
