In case you haven't seen the flyer for the 2007 Ginger's Egg Run that we have posted at www.vespa.org.uk/scootering%20events.htmyou should know that this year is the 21st anniversary of the world's biggest scooter-only rideout. The rideout itself leaves Lowton Civic Hall (Lancs) at 12 noon prompt on Saturday 24th March, but there will be free camping, food stalls and entertainment on both Friday and Saturday nights for those that want to make a weekend of it. This is a very well run event, that GMP traffic motorcyclists give up their rest days to marshall, and I have to say it's the best marshalled mass rideout I've ever taken part in. This is your chance to be part of history. "Dad says you used to ride proper scooters before Europe banned them grandad, is that true?" "Yes that's right" "You must have been one of the faces. Did you ever go on that Ginger's Egg Run?" "Yes son, in fact I was there at the famous 21st anniversary Run in 2007 when 3,000 scooters brought south Lancashire to a complete standstill" "Wow grandad, you're so cool. I want to be just like you when I grow up" "I know son, I know"

Thanks for that Spence. I heard this event is excellent. I can't go on the rideout unfortunately, as my scooter let me down on the way to Morecambe and I have yet to find out what is wrong with it.

In reply to Skaville's post earlier on, Sue mentioned that some Cloud 9 might be going back up for the do in a van after the rideout.
Barry, don't know if you've seen it but I've sent you a PM about the IOM.

Is anyone camping, or are most people going in a hotel. If any of you are staying the night in a hotel, could you please give me any names of hotels in that area. Don't know the area at all and don't seem to be able to find much info on the internet either.

Er, I don't think it's really hotel country Karen. Lots of people camp because it's a really good do though. Honestly, if you camp you won't be stuck in the field on your own!

I think I am too much of a wuss to camp in this weather. Might either end up staying sober and driving home, or if it came to it have a kip in the car. Too much like hard work erecting a tent.

The weather forecast for the weekend's cloudy but mild and dry, so I wouldn't mind camping myself, but I've got to get back for the dog. That's my excuse anyway.

Can anyone tell me if the Friday night is just going to be as good as the Saturday night at the venue? Thinking of going on Friday now, but don't want to get there and find that nobody attends and it ends up being a flop.

Sorry we were so late Mike, those of us that were on time, in working order and fully fuelled could have easily met up with you. Unfortunately we had to wait for those that weren't.
Despite everything I said about the organisation and GMP motorcycle outriders in the posts above, it was sadly lacking this year, making the rideout very stop-start indeed. All credit to Ginger though who took it on the chin and made an announcement after the custom show that it would be better next year.
Talking of the custom show, I have to mention that the Sprint of yours truly here picked up Best Vintage Vespa which I was made up about, especially as there was a very clean, simple white GS on show that I thought had it sewn up. On accepting my award, I'd just like to say a couple of thank yous. That is a big thank you to Mark "Skaville" O'Doodle and Dave H from Holywell who, despite being helmetted-up, engines running and ready to go, opted to dismount, stay behind and wait for the outcome of the show so that I didn't have to ride home on my own. Even though Mark had to get home for his tea and be out again by six. Dave, by his own admission, has no life, so his sacrifice was slightly less, but no less appreciated by me. Thanks fellas.
Llew stayed behind for the evening do and bravely pitched a tent. Despite the lovely sunshine all day, it was still pretty chilly, so I bet it was freezing once the sun went down. So if you went to the evening do, what was it like?

Evening do was very good and the tent was freezing. I must admit that by 24:00 i could not stand ;D When i got back to the tent i couldnt even find the zip so had to pull the poles out of the floor crawl in and push them back. Needless to say i had no trouble sleeping, until about 3:30 when my mate came back and let my air bed down Very good day in all, that my last now till southport. Cheers..Tim

Which leads me onto another subject... photos. In my excitement at actually winning a prize in the custom show, I managed to delete all the photos I'd taken throughout the day, so if you have any you'd like to donate to our photos page, please email them to spence@vespa.org.uk or lucia@vespa.org.uk.
Cheers.

2008.
OK, who's going this year? Hopefully they have sorted the rideout problems of last year, it would seem so as the flyer says that they are going for a world record attempt 2 mile procession. Something that wouldn't have been possible last year.
It's a good day out, really looking forward to this one.

This will be the first I've missed for four years, here's hoping it's better than last year. (Which was all the fault of the fuzz by the way, nothing to do with Ginger!)
