I am running a T5 with a Mallossi 172 kit and a road race exhaust with a Dellorto 28 PHBH carb, this has a 125 main jet and a 70 starter jet. The scooter has a new stator, CDI unit, lead, plug cap and plug, and also a new carb. The problem is when starting from cold it is a pig to start. After a number of kicks without starting I take the plug out because it's wet and when I clean it or replace it with another plug after a number of kicks it will start. After this it will start first time, every time whilst it's warm and will tick over all day long. The problem is the cold starting. I've even blown the new carb out with an air line but the results are just the same when cold, nothing until after a number of kicks. Any ideas lads? Also the ignition wire has been checked from the ignition switch for continuity has this is OK. The tank has been cleaned and a new fast flow fuel tap has been fitted and the flow is 0.5 litres in 40 seconds

Best to get it on a rolling road. Where are you based, as there is one up the road from me, I'm in Lincolnshire.

I would check the choke circuit, no experience with the carb you have but at least check the choke is operating correctly

I think PM tuning in Morecambe have a dyno, and if they do not have one they will know who has.

Ian, it would appear I don't have a problem when it's running, it's just getting the thing started.

Slide number?? Atomizer used , needle used? What clip is it set too?
Too much happening at the moment, to help, and doing this on my phone and not my tablet, is doing my nut in 😂 .
Have those to hand too and ask Jack221 nicely on the modern vespa forum, the not so modern section. Introduce yourself too.

Ace Face, thanks for the reply, don't know off hand what the slide number, atomiser used but the needle is x19 and the clip is set at the second groove down. Everything on the carb is the same as when the scooter was running great. Also when the scooter starts it seems as if it will tick over all day long. Even bypassed the ignition switch and put a switch between the CDI unit and earth to cut out any chance of the ignition lead earthing out on the frame, still have the same problem.

You may already of tried this but if you can cover the air intake almost completely with your hand while kicking over it will have the same effect as a choke, by putting your hand over it when kicking it over you will feel the suction from the engine and by restricting the air flow it draws more fuel in, a very basic way to mimic a choke circuit, but if plug comes out wet it sounds like too rich. Keep us posted if you have any tips from the other forum.

I'll try this Ian and let you know how I get on. This is a long problem to solve because the wife has bladder cancer and this comes first.

archie, very sorry to hear about your wife.Hope she gets better soon.
Has the scoot run fine before with this carb and fittings?
Did this start after you fitted a fast flow fuel tap?
What spark plug are you using? Have you tried a colder one?
Still can't find my scooter note book, and my mate with the same engine and carb is in the USA till January, and would have no idea of his carb setting, if I asked him.
If you have time to answer the questions posed above, all being good here, I will try and get on your case over the weekend ( wife's birthday tomorrow).
Hope you can keep your chin up, in your trying time.
