Why does my accelerator cable keep unhooking itself at the carb

Could be a sticky lever in the carb. Could be stretched cable but probably because its a nob. All my cables are nobs. Including the repaired throttle cable. Proper nob.

sounds like the throttle is sticking open. When you close the throttle the cam is pushing the cable rather than the throttle slide spring pulling it.

All cables are nobs... like it! Replace the inner cable first.

fast flow tap probably a good start but maybe worth checking carb float valve and also make sure fuel line not too long or any tight bends in it that may have a kink.

your throttle cable adjusted properly at the carb box, you cable shouldn't come loose.
Could also be your inner cable is frayed and about to snap!
If you are changing the fuel tap yourself ; Borrow ,beg or steal the fuel tap tool before buying, as you'll probably never use it again π.
I'd fit SIP, V2 and have π.

Well I got 5he fast flow tap fitted ( thanks to ianmartin40 ) So yesterday took the scoot to work, got further than ever,,THEN IT STOPPED, Just cut out,,but wouldnβt start this time.Guys in the work donβt believe iv got a scooter,They think I take the helmet for a walk Anyway, got it on the trailer and got it home, pushed in 5he shed and closed it up. Today tried a few things then checked compression NONE Took the head off and the pistons holed, Do I need to take the engine out to replace the piston, canβt get the next bit off hits the frame when I slide it up the bolts. how do I find out the piston size,is it marked,

If you just want to change piston and barrel in situ then you can remove the cylinder studs, however this method is considered by some to be unwise as when re fitting them there can be issues with how far into the engine case they end up. To do the job properly you need to remove the engine and you should probably also split the cases to make sure none of the molten aluminium from the piston crown ended up in the case next to the crank, this should be properly cleaned up before re-assembly, hole in the piston is from running too hot from being too lean a fuel/air mix. Some pistons marked on the top but probably easier to find out what kit it is running if any, and buy the correct piston from that kit maker, if it is standard iron barrel then you can buy a variety of piston sizes, need to measure what you have. no luck mate

Any chance of a photo of the piston? Must have had a big air leak or low fuel flow to make it so weak, to hole it.Are you sure the new tap flowed correctly? Could you have pinched or squashed the fuel pipe, fitting the tap? Is your carb on tight? What did you remove or loosen when you fitted the new tap? Depending on how much swarf the hole made an where it went ( did it smear on the cylinder and head, for instance?) Not sure if I would strip the engine, you only need to see how may Lambwettas π hole pistons on their travels and change pistons to get on their way π. Yes, I have seen a lot of holed Vespa pistons, in my time too! π± and we did as the Lambwetta guys above did, too π. Having said that, I'm daft enough to do the above based on how things look and with years of experience. Ian's way it the best practice way and your are much better using his advice βΊ. I ALWAYS try to keep my fuel tank topped up as high as possible at all times, even if it means going to the petrol station more and only having room for a couple of Β£'s worth at a time, as the carbs sit high compared to the fuel tank petrol level and this can help fuel flow. The only exception to the above for me , is if a fuel pump is fitted. Mista freak mopeds has some video's showing some taps with good fuel flow at low petrol tank levels, that is one of the reasons I recommended the SIP V2 tap. I would think about fast flowing your carb or buy one already done, mista freak mopeds has videos how to do it, if you fancy giving it a go! You can Google how to split an engine ,while still in the frame, here's a way π Holed piston posts from our misguided Lambwetta π riding brothers .π www.scooterotica.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=27245MijβΊ
