I have just swapped from a PHBH to a BGM SI26/26 on my Malossi 210 to get better fuel economy. I now have a flat spot in 4th when coming off throttle and resuming. Lots Of threads on the subject but no one ever seems to find the answer. I’ve tried upping the idle jet to 68/160 changing the mixer tube BE3 to BE4 , have not yet tried changing the air corrector. Plug looks a little lean
Any ideas please ?

I always get kick back after posting this, but nevertheless I can guarantee that it fixed the same issue on my PX200 HB stage 4 and SIP Road 2.
When rebuilding the frame I was lazy and didn't fit the drip tray, tried all sorts to fix the flat spot when coming off throttle, particularly in 4th. Someone suggested to fit the tray and it stopped it completely.

It was written about in Scootering Magazine years ago. I found this out by trial and error in the 1980's, especially after Helping jet a few 125cc motorcycles that had, had their airboxes drilled. Got me to thinking that tray helps the vespa frame act as similar to an airbox. Have always said fit the tray when jetting a standard type carb, to eliminate the flatspot. By the way, Scootering proved it on an 210 Malossi, dyno'd with and without the drip tray!! Mij☺

The drip tray is not usually a perfect seal, it does however reduce the size of the airbox/frame air space and although it may not be a perfect seal it would still act as a baffle/flow restrictor and if it works as a fix, what a cheap and easy fix! we all love those!

When I say, that could very well be the fix, you may find you have a drip tray already fitted! If you do, I would try pressure testing the engine, to make sure you don't have an air leak, before trying rejetting.

Just had a wee goo#le search about the drip tray and carb jetting, yip loads of doubters!
Wish I could remember/ find the Scootering Magazine issue it was in!. From (my bad) memory, I believe it was a Malossi 210 fitted with a standard type carb that had a flat spot. Think it may have been Malk Anderson @ Midland Scooter Center that told them about needing the drip tray fitted !

when i fitted my sip speedo, I took the drip tray out to run the cable. I had problems until I put the tray back. I left it out as I couldn't fit it without undoing the panel locks.

Yes, tank out. Your scoot should already have one fitted as standard, they only go missing if someone has removed it from PX models, usually because the are too lazy to refit it. Can't remember if they are fitted to the other large frame models, think they maybe. Mij☺
