Hi folks I need some help with an electrical fault. My vespa px 125 e 1983 headlight dims and the indicators stop working the lights on speedo also dim.
Then all is fine and then it happens again. Very frustrating as just spent money at scoot shop to sort it. It has had a new indicator switch and other bits and bobs. could it be the voltage regulator.
Thanks

On tickover or is it when you're giving it large?

Same either way. Forgot to mention than when I changed the headlight bulb it was completely black.

By virtue of the fact your lights go out at speed and then the bulb blows and is black.
A short in the wiring loom to ground blows the regulator (likely to be around headset) when power returns it eventually cooks the bulbs because power in no longer regulated.
This happened to me on my 2008 px200. Wires were jammed under speedo and worn through. After a bit of heatshrink and a few regulators before I realised what was going on life is good again.
Cheers

Thanks Matt, I'll change the regulator to get through the mot on Tuesday. Then if it happens again I'll have more time to sort it. If changing the regulator doesn't work I can just hope it has a good day on Tuesday.

Put a new regulator on and things are very bright now. Got it from saxon scooters ebay shop very quick delivery. It had an advisory for the steering bearings which he said should of failed but is giving me another year.
Cheers Nick.
