Hi there, I'm working on a 2003 classic type PX125 which I'm replacing the exhaust on with a standard pattern exhaust. The previous one was far too loud to get through an MOT and while I don't mind a bit of noise, I'm getting boring in my old age and pootling to work through town on a regular basis I'd prefer not to be quite so lary. So I got a new exhaust, it looked easy enough to fit and I didn't have too much trouble getting the old one off **until** I realised there's a bracket which needs removing. Where the bolt goes through the swing-arm to secure the exhaust there was a bracket to secure the previous one. For the life of me I can't get it to budge. This is the bolt and bracket in question, the bracket is loose enough to wiggle about, and the washer between the bracket and the bolt is also moving when I wiggle it about. The bolt is absolutely jammed. I've soaked it in WD40 for a few hours, I can just get the tip of a screwdriver in the gap under the washer to try and lever the bolt out but I'm not sure if there is a thread through the frame which means I need to rotate the bolt out? Should it just slide out? The Haynes manual is not particularly helpful... Any tips much appreciated!! The new exhaust has a bracket/holes which look like they slide up the same way the bracket does here, so I don't think I can fit it without removing this extra bit And the scooter in question:

There's two bolts welded onto a bracket, drill it out, spin the nut off and replace with a nut and bolt.

That does not look like a standard bracket, there is no thread inside the swing arm part of the engine, the bolt just slides straight through it into a nut on the other side of the bracket for a std exhaust, it may make life a bit easier to have the scooter raised with the stand on some big blocks and the rear wheel removed

The whole bracket is loose, the U-bracket is the part which needs to come off... the nut came off the bolt easily enough, (just behind the U-bracket out of sight) - but that bolt + 2 washers is the part which is absolutely stuck fast. Is that what you think needs drilling out? I guess that'll mean getting the rear wheel off for clearance.

It's a pain as I'm pretty much there otherwise and could get the new one on if this damn thing wasn't stuck.

Hello. I recognise that exhaust.the bolt slides through a hole through the engine casing. try removing the bolt connecting the rear shock to the engine. swing the shock towards the rear. the engine should swing up giving you better access to the end of the bolt where you might be able to knock it through with a drift. Good luck. and when you fit the new bolt put loads of copperslip on it. you won't forget that after the Grief you've had.

you won't forget that after the Grief you've had. Thanks for the tip! I'll have another look this weekend hopefully. I sure won't forget the copperslip... Experience on previous bikes had already prepared me for this to be a pain in the neck!

Does the bolt turn,,if not let air out the tyre, that way you can get a socket onto the bolt and turn it,wd40 and keep turning, then molegrips and a hammer
